Both were already claimed on waivers and pulled back, so they can't.

edit: trade waivers. Good. Hopefully they get something in return.

also, whatever criticism anybody has towards wade ( i was critical of giving anything up for hawkins in the first place), he is undoubtedly going to get more in return for hawkins than he gave up in the first place.

    nice job, ed.

I'm suprised he wasn't put on waivers earlier.

we could have tried to work a deal for miggy though. Who knows if they even tried.

I hope Latroy can be back or if not good wishes to him. Love watching that guy pitch.

With every HR and RBI and SB this guy Ben Zobrist gets i get more and more depressed. Good Bye LaTroy...You were the most consistent thing in the BP this season. With you gone I don't know what the hell they're going to do next year. They might as well trade everything away. Fire Wade! Hire Hunsicker!

from what I understand, another team c-blocked us w/respect to miggy.

they didn't want him, but didn't want a rival to acquire him so they put in a claim

That's a risky move in this economy. Unless we're planning to offer him arbitration to try to get draft picks, we should have just let that team have him and save $3-4MM in salary to add to next year's team.

What does Zobrist have to do with Hawkins? Zobrist was traded for Aubrey Huff.

according to estimates at mlbtraderumors.Com Hawkins would likely be a type A free agent this offseason meaning the club could get two first round draft picks next year if they offer him arb and he declines.

To me that would seem more valuable then trading him.

If the Pudge move wasn't, this is officially the end of the Astros 2009 season.

Hope they can get something of value for Hawkins. He's been pretty damn good since coming over last season.

i'd say it would be close to a guarantee that he would accept. trading him is the move here.

But we never offer arbitration because we're afraid they'll accept it.
