The guy does not seem like that good of a player for a Max contract. I hope Washington matches, we need somewhere to dump Ryno.
I honestly don't even know who this player is, what position he plays, or what team he played for last season. I'm an avid NBA and sports fan.
They still have 21 mil in capspace so they can still absorb Anderson right now. The only problem is that they dont' want. A minor detail.
This may be one of the few times it's better to lose a guy for nothing than overpay. Otto Porter is a joke.
btw better for the Wizards this way. They can save some little money. But I bet John Wall will be even more pissed that even freaking Porter makes more money than him.
Now the Nets also want to offer him a max offer sheet. There is a race going on . Everyone after Otto!
Nah man, the guy is good, come on...he's also still developing, he did a great season. I get that a max at this point seems a lot, but he's going to make a couple of millions more than Anderson no? It's not that much for the Wizards, they are set, they have no reason to not match...i think at least lol
The Wizards are damned if they do and damned if they dont'. If they do : Lux tax hell, Wall gets disgruntled. If they don't : Wall gets even more disgruntled and doesn't sign the DPE.
of course they will match. It's Grunfeld the most imbecile GM in the league. (well after GarPax I guess). Also they can't afford to risk losing Wall. Wall is playing it hard signing his DPE and has a lot of buddies in other teams who have been recruiting him. He also doesn't like Washington. They may lose him in the end, but they will do everything possible to appease him so he resigns. Not matching Porter who is a vital part of their core means they are not "serious about contending" so byebye.
Yeah i agree, in the end they will match...i still read here and there about Cousins going there next summer (and that would require them to lose Porter i guess), but i don't see it...
Yes, I was a bit too harsh. IMO, Porter (1) just had the best season he possibly could, (2) in a contract year (3) as the 3rd option. A team that depends on him to produce each and every game is not a good team. If the Wizards' goal is a championship, their 3rd (and last) big salary can't go to someone like Otto Porter. They need a player that can move the needle. In every prior case I can remember, my view was it's better to overpay than lose a guy for nothing. This one is hard.
Well, i think it's not lol On paper they can still lose him but i just don't think they're in a position to do it...Wall expires in two years...
