These two seem to really get along well from everything I've read and they both have fire, intensity and a desire to tackle strong and efficient everytime...

I swear there was one time where it took Chris Johnson a lot longer than usual to get up after being pressed into the ground by Cushing..."When he hits people, they feel it,” Ryans said.

I know it helps Ryans' game as well. I see good things. Real good things coming from our LB unit in the near future!

Barring major injury our whole defense is about to shoot the moon.

I'll believe it when I see it.

So far we can't contain a turtle in a box.

Blown coverages cost us a lot of yards this past week. I am sure the video is under careful review in the Defense meeting room. Relax, man, we have some hope. Signed a few peeps and got help for some more. Don't you like Cushing?

Blown coverages, especially by the safeties cost us big play TDs last week, week 1, in the preseason, and throughout all of last season. Bottom line is that with the exception of Wilson (I'll consider Busing an INC exemption), we've been trotting out guys (Barber, Ferguson) that are incompetent maintaining their responsibilities.

"The defense is great except for all those times they give up 50 yd TDs" is like saying Casserly was a great GM if you don't consider all of his foul ups.

I'm really hopeful Pollard pans out and keeps Barber/Ferguson off the field.

Busing is starting to look more and more like a ball hawk, but there have been multiple times I have seen him way out of position on a long run. For obvious passing downs I like having him out there because he has good coverage instincts but he has a lot of work to do on run support.

Cushing's work ethic is what makes me feel good about him because I know that if he doesnt pan out, it wasnt because he wasnt trying...and I can live with that much easier.

Im all for the Texans drafting players that want to work hard to succeed. Every guy that gets drafted has plenty of talent...one of the things that separates the busts from the non-busts is how much they put into it. Cushing is obviously someone that works hard and wants to do well in this league.

Glad we got him, even though I remember not being overly excited when we drafted him.

In two games he's exceeded Barbie Carpenter's career output in dallas.

Texans stepped it up late in the game, keeping Johnson in "control" after his early offensive outburst.

I'm hoping the 4th and late in the 3rd quarter defense can bring that intensity from now on.

The first 2.5 quarters it was NASTY.

There was one moment during last Sunday's game when Cushing exploded through the gap and flattened the Titans' RB, and he shot up from the ground and started celebrating, and DeMeco Ryans got absolutely jacked up and ran over to join Cushing.

I got fired up watching, and it shows that the All-Pro Ryans already has an immense amount of respect for the rookie.

Cushing and Ryans will be a good combo. Mario is great. Only 4 more slots in the front 7 to be fixed. Hopefully, some guys on the roster develop into better players.

What gives me confidence in this defense is the SECOND HALF of the Titans game. Aside from the 91 yard run by CJ (where, honestly, Okoye was the true culprit in my eyes), this defense, led by the linebacking corp, shut Tennessee DOWN. Cushing and Ryans were EVERYWHERE, and the pressure on Collins was visible. I really think once Bush figures out who his play-making safeties are (right now, it seems like Busing and Wilson have stepped up to the role), this defense will be poised to make some drastic improvements. The addition of Pollard, as well as getting Reeves back should only help the cause.

If Cushing busts, he may develop a bust.

Diles is no slouch either. He was out halfway into the season last year but still was 2nd (team) in tackles I think. And the year before that Greenwood was developing into something special. After Diles was down last year Adibi picked up his slack without fallout. I think its Ryans that just seems to raise the level of our other LBs just by being there.

LBs look great, to bad we wasted all of that $ on (I'm actually going to have to look his name up..how sad is that) Antonio Smith.

If only Drob and Okoye would play better and we could get something out of Barwin the D would be set.

The pieces are there, just need to play to potential.
