The way I look at it.... Ryan Anderson: $18.74 million Kevin Love: $21.17 RA: 28 years old KL: 28 years old RA: Sporadic (non-chronic) injury history KL: Sporadic (non-chronic) injury history RA: Below average defender KL: Below average defender RA: 41.6% FG% KL: 42.9% FG% RA: 40.5% 3FG% on 7.0 attempts/game KL: 38.4% 3FG% on 6.7 attempt/game RA: 2.3 Free Throw Attempts per game KL: 5.4 Free Throw Attempts per game RA: 4.9 rebounds per game KL: 11.1 rebounds per game RA: 1.0 assist per game KL: 1.9 assists per game Ryan is a better 3 point shooter than Love. He makes them at a slightly higher %, on slightly more volume and if I had to guess, at deeper ranges. Love is obviously the better rebounder, passer, and he's better at drawing fouls. The rebounded might be slightly overstated because I think Love tends to be a leader in uncontested rebounds (or the least valuable of all rebounds). They are the same age, have similar health histories and both are below average defenders. Overall, no doubt Love is the better player....but his contract is artificially low because 1) it was signed before the huge cap jump and 2) he can only get the max (i.e. he likely would have received more if there wasn't an artificial ceiling on his contract). My best estimate for his real value is $26.5 million, or similar to Al Horford. So if we look at $18.7 (Anderson) vs. $26.5 (Love), Anderson's contract doesn't seem off. He gets you slightly better shooting with 6 less rebounds, 1 less assist and 3 less free throws.....making only 70% of what Love is worth.
You're totally right but this whole thread is 57 pages of "Listen, the salary cap went up - good role players make ~$18 million now". If they don't get it by now, f*ck em.
It depends on if he stays healthy and how much worse he gets at everything other than shooting as he gets older. As it stands, the only thing of value is his shooting.....and that is very valuable, but he's awful when it comes to everything else on the court. At some point, he could get bad enough at everything else to where he's a liability on the court and then he's not even a starter anymore.....but still making 20 mil a year. At what point do you think 3 point specialists off the bench will be making 20 mil a year? I'd bet not in the next several years (other than Anderson)
Bobby already plotting Ryno's demise after his first year as a Rocket at 28.. smh. Bobby never lets go.
If you disagree with anything I said, specify which part. If you can't.....well, that probably says quite a bit.
Come on, Bobby! This is his first year! You're thinking whatever he does badly now will get even worse by next year.. two years? he'll be 30 at the end of his contract! His best asset to the team is not even his shooting! Everybody respects his shot 5 feet from three even when he can't shoot. How bad do you think Ryno might get where that passive ability won't be beneficial to the team...even from the bench... even at 20 mil? Ryno is not perfect, but he has an elite skill. It's strange the way you have extrapolated his NBA career into being a garbage bench player so soon. PLUS, Morey is the Rockets GM. You think an unproductive player that is (what you think) is over paid will just take up space on the bench? You saw what he did with Brew, Ennis, and KJ, right.
It's his first year and already he does nothing well aside from shooting.....I don't expect that to get any better and I don't know that he'll remain above 40% from 3. You say his best asset to the team is not even his shooting....but it's literally the ONLY thing he does well. You then go on to explain that the other things he does well is by having opponents fear his shooting as if you didn't realize that you are still talking about his shooting. Anyway, you didn't really point out anything I said that you disagree with that you didn't end up arguing in favor of accidentally yourself. You know, I know, everybody knows that the only thing Anderson does is shoot, which is awesome, but it hardly justifies 20 mil a year. Do you think Wiltjer will be paid like that?
Classic Bobby... I'm not going to argue with you, I know how that goes. I'll just ask the question: How much should he be paid?
While I agree with you that Anderson is limited on his impact on the game, we should keep in mind he's only 28. He won't have a severe drop off in production during this contract. If he continues to produce at this level, which I'm confident he will, barring injuries, this contract is fine
We overpaid for Anderson but we got a real bargain with Gordon, so it kinda evens things out a bit. Really, if you switched their contracts it would be pretty close to what their true value is.
I definitely do believe he is overpaid, but someone was going to. Ryan shooting is that elite that I feel it was well worth for the Rockets to pay him that kind of money. I can't really think of another available player in FA market or available for trade that would have fit in so perfectly into what Ryan does for us. I don't foresee him declining in the next few years unless he suffers some terrible injury, I feel you are underestimating his value. There was a market out there and unfortunately the Rockets had to pony up the cash. Like you thedude said, Eric is slightly underpaid so it helps lessen the blow.
Unquestionably critical to this team's success. He is the second most important player on this team. (He has done a GREAT job on switches lately, especially against the Cavs)
well the other night he did a pretty decent job on defense on lebron, does that count tho? he also had a lot of solid performances on D that i cant recallnow...one that comes to mind is against san antonio frontcourt
