I used to think he takes those threes from deep cuz he happens to be that deep. Nope, the dude is allergic to physical play and stands as far away as he can to get his shot off. His form starts low and his release is slow.

Dude plays the same speed throughout the game. Usually you turn it up a notch in crunch time. Go faster, harder, jump higher. Nope not Ryan. He's gotta keep his hair parted, jersey tucked, and prevent sweat.

I just don't understand why we're seeing barely any post up fade away ala Dirk moves from him when his outside shot is not falling.

At least he can contribute offensively that way.

I really hope he's not being told to eradicate that from his game while he's here.

I really hope he's being told to eradicate it from his game. I would bet he's hitting less than 40% on that shot. It takes so long for him to take that shot that there is no point to it. He might as well just take a face up jumper with a lot of arc and forget the whole move which is not fooling anyone and not creating any extra space for him. That shot if effective for Dirk because it takes a split second for him to execute it and he gets the ball high/back enough that his defender can't get to it.

I definitely want Ryno to take more shots, but catch and shoot only, even if it's inside the line. The ball should never be with Ryan Anderson longer than a couple of seconds. If we start getting him to do other stuff he will not be earning his money. The only way Anderson is going to earn $18m is by hitting 40% of a LOT of open 3's, the result of which is points for him and future points for his teammates, especially Harden. Anderson should be leading this team in 3PA every game.

Also, if Anderson is missing a lot of 3's, it's probably because his defender is 25 feet from the basket. Which is fine. That's the whole point of Ryan Anderson. This stuff is only alarming to me if Anderson is being guarded very closely and Harden is not getting to the line, something which has happened only once this season by my count.

I've seen him make that shot maybe twice. It's ugly, unathletic and it never goes in.

You can run some backscreens for him the way the Spurs run backscreens for Danny Green to get open for corner 3's. Other than that, I really don't see any other way to get him more shots. He is what he is.

    That's my whole point.

All you need to do is look up his time at the Pels and see how effective it is.

Anderson is a 3 point specialist role player, making 18+ million a year. The dynamics of player contracts are beyond me!!! Can't blame him for the checks though.

He needs some easy baskets too to get his confidence up, especially when his 3 isn't falling early. Harden needs to get some closer easy fed just to get him going, just like Capela, Ariza, Dekker, etc. All the Rockets have been abysmal from 3 point land recently.

I would have given him 12 million under the old CBA circumstance.

For as much money as he's making he should be more consistent at the offensive end. His defense and rebounding are at best a tolerable sufferance but we didn't sign him up for those things, we signed him up to hit the 3 ball and create leg room for Harden by pulling other bigs away from the basket. If he fails at this task then he's not worth the contract, imo.

With that said, I'm going to hold out until the playoffs are over before passing any sort of final judgement on this. I think the recent skid is largely due to the fact that the team is gassed and we've been injured. I think we will make a strong push here soon and if we catch fire going into the playoffs the tone of this thread will change dramatically as it already has several times.

He isn't perfect, but I know damn well that every single coach in the league fears him. If you lose focus for a second he can burn you. And he is a streak shooter. If he makes one, he is probably going to make 5.

So are we just going to ignore that Donatas is shooting better than him this year even while getting back up to speed after a long layoff, and also posts better per-minute stats in everything else like Reb/Ast/Blk/Stl ?

Also, Ryan Anderson's injury history is really no better than Donatas. We could have had Donatas for less than half the money with team options, which would have eliminated the risk of having an injury-prone player. Anderson's contract is already practically untradeable after just a few months of playing it out.

Home Ryan Anderson hopes to become as good as Road Ryan Anderson

Rockets forward Ryan Anderson joined his teammates in expressing appreciation for practice days on the Rockets' home court. For him, however, it might be more valuable.

Anderson has shot far better on the road than in Toyota Center this season, making 47.3 percent of his 3s in road games, just 30.3 percent of his 3s at home. He has averaged 16.7 points in 27 road games, 10.7 points on 24 home games.

"Great naps on the road. Hotel room service is really good for me," Anderson said.

With that, he had to admit he really doesn't know why he has struggled on his home court.

"I don't know. I have no idea," Anderson said. "There is no method to the madness. Maybe I just have to get used to the red court, I don't know. But it'll get better. There aren't really any answers to that. It's just how it's been. I'm happy with the way the way this group is playing. I'm happy with my role on this team. Regardless of if I shoot it good or bad, I want to do my job and space the court for James and hopefully knock down a few shots."

Anderson had been on a roll to end the Rockets road trip and in the first game of the homestand, averaging 19.6 points on 50 percent shooting in the five games prior to Tuesday's game against the Orlando Magic. He made just 4 of 19 shots, averaging 5.5 points in the past two games. But despite the shooting issues at home, he believed more time at home would be beneficial.

"Our schedule on the road has been nuts," Anderson said. "Anytime we get a chance to practice in this building, it's big. It's important for us to spend as much time in here as we can."

Well everyone knew Dmo was a more complete player but Ryno can catch fire at any moment which is what this team wants. Ideally MDA wanted these 2 guys to share the floor together to have an open lane for Jim!
