In the past with this much noise of Russian collusion, most politicians would stay away from even any signs of favoritism toward Russia. This means too things: He's confident enough to speak and act off the cuff due to his strong base. He's walked back enough comments and actions that he knows he can always back away if the pressure is too high. Perhaps being unpredictable/inconsistent might be the new style of governing other politicians model going forward. After surviving the initial backlash, it offers a lot of flexibility going forward.
Ha. Aren't we too far in now to be deluded by "wow Trump is playing 11 dimensional chess here"? It has been alleged and verified by words and deeds thousands of times now that he is in fact the half-senile, proudly ignorant cruel, petty dipshit we thought he was who offers little to no redeeming value other than to destroy and corrupt all he touches. All of his behavior above is consistent with this evidence as well.
People are acting like he has dropped sanctions against Russia for invading another country and “annexing” their land. That was Obama.
Oh really, I wonder who are these some. And that something... typical of trump talking in ways that let him lie and if caught said he didn’t lie.
I think north Korea represents a bigger issue than our western allies and is definately more worthy of the presidents time
Why do you think Trump says 'yes' to meeting Kim when previous American presidents thought it was wose not to?
Because trump thinks bullying Kim face to face is the best way to get him to do what he wants. Some sort of trump power play. What are you suggesting? Trump is meeting with north korea because he approves of their behavior?
I'm suggesting that he is meeting with Kim because he desires a "legacy" over pragmaticism. The NK dictatoriship always wanted to meet with the POTUS for a chance of a photo op so they can seem more legitmate amongst their peers and more importantly their subjects. Previous administrations understood any of their promises can be taken with a grain of salt so any meeting face to face with them would be an undeserved reward. Previous presidents as egotistical as they would seem understood that high stakes pragmaticism is far more important than than a photo ops legacy builder. Trump is different. He doesn't understand consequences.
Trump has a history of talking big in public and then backing down when actually meeting other world leaders. It's been shown that he's easily flattered and manipulated. I doubt Trump will be bullying anyone.
Previous administrations have done an awesome job with north korea. Definately they are the gold standard trump should follow. Do you think Bush took Gaddafi at his word we he got him to give up all his weapons? Don't know why you think trump will
He already got Kim to release three American hostages and blow up a nuclear test site for nothing. I have no idea if he will achieve anything with this meeting.
That's equivalent to someone who has no knowledge of anything beyond basic algebra saying they can do better than someone who got a C on a multivariable vector calculus exam.
The three hostages that were taken under Trump's reign? The ones that he said were treated well by Kim? Are you referring to the nuclear test site that was said wasn't really destroyed and done for show? Or was there a different one?
