from the Chronicle: Rather than posting up in the Olajuwon mold, Cato, averaging 4.4 points in his previous five games, worked inside without the ball to follow missed shots and receive inside and alley-oop passes. "It wasn't playing like Dream plays," Tomjanovich said. "It's playing a part of the system. I didn't care who scores for us. Just move the ball around until the open guy gets it." Rudy didn't mean this as a slam at Hakeem -- he was talking about being yourself and not trying to imitate an idol -- but all the same, the words carry an ulterior and more apt meaning. I hope Rudy has had the guts to speak this unpleasant truth to Hakeem deliberately in private, not just accidentally in public. But I doubt it.
Hakeem has shown that he is willing to accept a lesser role on this team. Read today's article in the Chronicle about Hakeem. Rudy won't have to tell Hakeem; he already knows.
This is a very young and fragile team right now so the last thing we need is any sort of distractions. Rudy is smart, he knows what is coming out of his mouth (at least I'm confident he does).
Dream always comes across as unselfish and team oriented but when his play isn't called he becomes critical and resentful. I think what Will is saying, can Dream integrate into a new, more aggressive system instead of just standing in the post waiting for the ball without complaining or disrupting the team? I hope he does know because Anderson was horrible from the arch last night.
Good point RocketHead2. Hakeem does say he'll play as "part of the team", but earlier this season, he was complaining about not getting any touches. He stated that the offense should start from the post and work its way out if needed. Rudy seems to want anybody that's open to shoot the ball... Only time will tell how much Hakeem wants the ball and the limelight and whether or not he's willing to be option 2 or option 3 on the team. ------------------ Rocket fuel pumps through these veins...
