Opted out. I know, I know... 'do not want. He's old.' (He's 30). He's also a good shooter, and a great defender, and could even step in and play the 4 if needed. For a guy who put up 19 and 6 last year, his asking price will likely be fairly low. Would it be unrealistic to bring in a 2nd star, either through FA or trade, and then pick up Gay for the price of a decent bench player?
Neither a good shooter or a great defender. Also coming off an achilles tear so will probably only be 50% of the mediocre player he was before the injury.
If he was willing to sign for cheap I think he would be a great fit for us at the 4. It would give him a chance to chase a ring for a few seasons. Would it only make sense if we traded for PG or sign CP in Free Agency?
Last year I would have been on board . But he had a significant injury and given that he's on the older side and is a player that heavily relied on his athletisicm .... I don't see the upside. I guess if he's willing to come really cheap.
On an Eric Gordon like contract? I could be convinced. Anything more than that is where I draw the line. Unless he prioritizes winning, it'll never happen.
I see him in the same way that Iggy helped GS. He'd be great as a third option, a reliable defender, a floor spacer, and he's probably going to be cheap. We need a second option first, but as a third option, I don't see any downside of bringing him in.
