    From NBATALK:

Sonics Trying to Land a Big Man - According to the Seattle Times, the Sonics May Try to Trade Ruben Patterson in an Attempt to Get a Big Man. 'The list of free-agent big men isn't that pretty,' GM Wally Walker said at a news conference yesterday to announce the signing of Lewis. 'That doesn't mean there's not somebody there that can help us. But if we're going to do something that's going to transform our frontline, it's more likely to come via a trade.' The Sonics still have their $2.25 million exception and have guys like Patterson, Horace Grant, Greg Foster and Vladimir Stepania that they'd be willing to part with. The Sonics like Jahidi White, but right now he looks to be out of their reach financially. Sonics Rant

    -----------

Since it would seem that we can't get our hands on Rashard, Patterson may be the next best thing.

At the right price he would be very valuable for us and could start at the SF spot while the Langhi kid devolops...

Of course we would have to dump the Wizard first, somehow.

    What do you guys think?

It sounds like Seattle wants to package together a bunch of players like Patterson, Mad Max, and Stepania to get a guy like Kelvin Cato, a move we would never do.

    We don't need Patterson.

Langhi and Walt are all we need.

When does Ruebensons contract expire. We already have Walt and Langi at SF anyways. If they want Drew and Collier I would think about it. Patteson kicks ass in the running game.

Patterson is a nice player but nothing worth dealing away a lot for. He is an athletic high flyer that plays solid defense, but Seattle would probably demand too much for him. The Rockets can find an athletic wing at some pt either in the 2001 draft or in free agency. A player that I think will really blossom this yr and is a free agent in 2001 is Eddie Robinson. His high flying game would be a nice fit with the Rockets.

Patterson had a good year last year. He plays some great defense too. I am not sure if I would give up too much for him, but not Cato and certainly they would not want any of our other big men.

Doesn't say much for their expectations of V Baker.

I don't think this is a Vin Baker issue, I think it is a lack of front court depth and aging Horace Grant issue. Seattle still seems high on Baker who has reportedly has worked himself back into shape this summer. We will find out for sure in Sydney.
