He was dominant before pitching in his 6th game in a row. Dodgers clearly had no options and burnt him out. He is dominating again this season along with Herrera.

It’s not nothing. I’d compare the return to JD Davis, Myles Straw, and Jairo Solis. Not a monster return but a solid group of prospects for a rental reliever.

I wouldn't give that up for Herrera, myself. I'd trade Davis, Straw, Arauz for Hand though.

Not sure, but I think defending WS champs with the best run differential in the sport by a good margin says he's doing a damn good job.

love beating up on weaklings as much as anyone.. but come playoff time, you'll have to deal with a red sox, yankee, Indians lineup that needs performances from the pen. Giles is shot and shaky. Harris is done. Its unacceptable to let Herrera go for nothing after missing out on Morrow.

I agree Morrow is a baller, but it's pretty difficult to knock Luhnow. He's probably better than Hunsicker.. and Gerry was a baller.

I think the Astros could use an elite arm in the pen for the playoffs. However Luhnow has earned the right to the benefit of the doubt. For all we know the Royals really like the prospects they got or the Astros are targeting someone else.

    Things we don't know:

Did Luhnow try and work a trade for Herrera?
    Did Luhnow pursue Morrow?

Things Senator knows - Luhnow apparently does nothing to try and better the team. He just sits around and pats himself on the back for being acknowledged as one of the best GMs in the league and has positioned this team to be World Series contenders for the foreseeable future.

Spot on. OP acts like lunhow was so busy eating cake that he forgot to inquire about herrera. Something tells me this wasn't the case.

We are 7-12 in 1 run games. We are 5 games worse than our Pythagoras record should be. If this team has a weakness it is its bullpen.

Let's examine the 1 run losses:

9-8 - McCullers gave up 8 runs. BP 1 run in 5 innings.
    6-5 - Bullpen gave up 3 in 8th and 1 in 10th
    2-1 - Keuchel pitched a complete game
8-7 - This was a bad Smith game. Rest of BP was good.
6-5 - This was the bad Harris game. Rest of BP was good
4-3 - BP (Devenski) gave up 1 run in 3.2 innings.
1-0 - BP gave up nothing in 3 innings
2-1 - BP gave up nothing in 2 innings
5-4 - BP gave up 1 run in 4 innings (Keuchel took the loss)
    10-9 - Disaster game
    6-5 - BP (Devenski/Peacock) gave up 3 runs in 3.2 innings
    5-4 - Harris gave up 3 runs

Generally, it has been one guy who has done the BP damage in any given game. The 10-9 game is the notable exception. That being said, BP arms are always a good thing. The main reason the Astros are 7-12 in one run games is their offense has been too good most of the season. :)
