With 80 catches, 794 yards and 4 TD's this season, Hopkins will match Johnson's numbers through their first 3 years.

But it's not like he had Nate Washington type YPC numbers or anything.

That's because he didn't have to worry about team doubling him or putting their best cover corner on him. He's good so he suppose to take full advantage of Dre drawing all the attention. Again let's see how he performs as the featured #1 for us now. And since he will command all the attention, Shorts and or Washington should take full advantage of a lot of one on one matches.

Dre was a no3 pick in the draft. There aren't a whole bunch of guys with Dre Size, Speed, Strength. There is just some god given gifts that Dre had. Also the NFL is much more of a passing league than even 10 years ago.

David Carr is no longer in the league. Coincidence?

Why does this type of myth persist?

If it were this simple, why don't #2 receivers on all teams with a good WR put up 1200 yards?

The last time Ryan Fitzpatrick had a big year (2011, 3800+yards) he had ONE receiver get over 1000 yards (Stevie Johnson) and the #2 was under 700.

The #2 receiver next to Calvin Johnson, who is better than Andre and definitely demands more safety help than Andre ever did, has never gone for 1200 yards.

Help me out here and find me an example of a guy who was targeted as much as DeAndre (or close) with the type of production he had that fell off when the receiver next to him left. The closest I can think of is those super speed guys who pick up a bunch of yards as merely a speed target that fall apart, but clearly that isn't what DeAndre is.

Also don't think Andre faced "double teams" the way most fans think. This sort of reminds me of the "Mario Williams faces a double team on every play" nonsense.

It's not a myth and I'm not arguing with you. Just saying I am curious to see how Nuk will do when these teams focus in on him. And I'm not saying he will be double all the time like you eluding to. Oh and you do know Mario is a beast over there for the Bill right?

Over the course of his career he seen quite a few double teams, best corners and safeties cheating over to his side.

It's not really a myth…there were a good amount of long completions to Hopkins last season where the safety would roll to AJ's side of the field, leaving Hopkins with one on one coverage. The reason Hopkins puts up great numbers compared to other WR2 in the league is because Hopkins is a #1 receiver…so he takes excellent advantage of those match ups. I think Hopkins will still do great in WR1 role, but now he will face safety coverage, something he didn't deal with as much last season.

So if he failed his physical, does that mean he had health problems still that kept him from performing at a higher level while he was here?

It means that NYG didn't want to pay him like a 3rd rounder. By signing him this way, they can in essence treat him like an UDFA. Houston eats all of his remaining signing bonus.

Or so I heard. I might be wrong.

Probably, yes. The guy has no knees, that was the knock on him in the draft. I'm not sure he'll ever have knees. It was worth a gamble on him having knees, but it crapped out.

Well, he was on IR last year with a knee issue so clearly he had health problems that held him back.

He's either got a chronic knee injury that he can't overcome or he's not motivated enough to rehab and get fully healthy and in-shape, in either case not deserving of a roster spot.
