Sorry if this has been posted already. Football experts, what do you think, should the Texans pick him up? How does the expansion draft work exactly by the way - i mean, if only the texans are involved, is it essentially them just deciding upon a group of players, or are some players only eligible to be picked at certain times (ie, if we didnt pick Romanowski with one of the top 5 picks he would go away?) http://msn.espn.go.com/nfl/news/2002/0119/1314168.html Saturday, January 19 Romanowski says he'll be in expansion draft -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press DENVER -- Denver Broncos linebacker Bill Romanowski said the team plans to expose him to the Houston Texans' expansion draft next month. Romanowski said coach Mike Shanahan told him he would be on the list the team will submit to the NFL by Tuesday. "He said, "We're going to put you on expansion list, and if they don't pick you up, then we'll talk about what we'll do,' " Romanowski said Friday. He is scheduled to make $2.2 million in base salary for the Broncos next season. The Denver Post reported Saturday that the Broncos also plan to expose former starting defensive end Kavika Pittman, former special-teams Pro Bowl selection Detron Smith, defensive tackle Jerry Johnson and wide receiver Phil McGeoghan. A telephone call to a team spokesman's home was not returned. The Broncos could lose as many as two players to the Texans in the Feb. 18 draft. If the team selects one Bronco, Denver could then pull back one of its other exposed players. If the Texans pick another Bronco, Denver could then pull back its remaining players. Smith, a former Texas A&M standout, thinks Texas is likely to pick him over Romanowski. "Romo can definitely help them out, but he's up there in age and they're looking to build with young players," said Smith, who played high school football in Dallas and is scheduled to make $600,000 in base salary next season. Pittman, who also has strong Texas roots, spent five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before signing a seven-year, $22 million contract that included a $3.15 million signing bonus in February 2000 and a $1.95 million base salary in 2002. He started 14 games for the Broncos this season before tearing a calf muscle and spending the final two games of the year on injured reserve.
