I remember hearing that song Infatuation a bunch when I was a kid, like to the point that my Dad had to tell me stop singing it; and that Pierre Cardin commercial covered You Wear it Well. And my brother was in some physical fitness thing where they did a dance to Rhythm of My Heart.
I saw Cyndi Lauper on Austin City Limits last week and thought it was awful. I'm really old and even I have no interest in seeing Stewart and Lauper.
I still remember attending a rock concert back in the 80s (can't recall the show) and one of the popular Houston radio DJ chicks at the time (forget who...probably from KLOL) came on stage during intermission and was announcing upcoming Houston tour dates by acts. She said Rod Stewart and everyone booed really loudly. She was taken aback and was like "okay...guess you'll don't like Rod Stewart". But, yea, a Cyndi and Rod pairing seems quite strange.
Eh... I'm going to see Lionel Richie at TC later this year. He's paired with Mariah Caray......yeah, we'll probably be getting there late. If you've never seen Lionel live, do yourself a favor and go see him. You won't be disappointed. We saw him on a whim in Vegas a few years ago and decided then and there that we would never miss a tour stop in Houston again.
Was that during the early or mid 80's? If so, I remember there was a boycott of Apartheid or something going on and artists refused to perform in South Africa, I think. He was one of the ones who decided to go and perform there despite this. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. I think by that time he had also gone more "pop"/alternative music, I think, and maybe they didn't like that. I was a bigger fan of Rod Stewart as a kid than I was of Cyndi Lauper. I hated Cyndi Lauper growing up, but as I've gotten older, I've oddly started liking her a lot more and really don't care much for Stewart, to be honest.
Rod Stewart... Cyndi Lauper? I guess they were somewhat relevant 35 and 45 years ago. Is Eddy Money or Cat Stevens going to open for them? I hope they give them lots of fluids and adequate stage space.
This Sugar Land venue is starting to piss me off. I enjoy walking a few blocks to TC or taking Uber anywhere in town to see a show. ZERO interest in going to freaking Sugarland for a band. I enjoy the drinks and whatever else is passed around and Sugarland is not a 5 minute $5 car ride away.
From my recollection, my impression was it was because we were at a hard rock concert and the crowd didn't consider Rod Stewart to be someone they would listen to. It was like going to a Metallica concert and them announcing Garth Brooks is coming or something during intermission. I've been to so many concerts back then. I almost want to say it was at Monsters of Rock @ Rice Stadium (1988) for some reason. But, another part of me thinks it happened indoors and I'm thinking at The Summit. I'm fairly sure it was the former because it would be unusual for a DJ to get up and make concert announcements in between bands at The Summit. I can't seem to recall that ever happening in all the shows I went to there. But, there were plenty of breaks between bands at Monsters of Rock. It was also hot as hell. Whatever show it was...it wasn't Rod Stewart friendly but I think it having to do with that South Africa situation is a stretch. Or, it could be and I just didn't get it because I was a punk kid at a concert. Funny....I found this on Wiki about this show: "The Houston show also had a trash/food/water fight between the field and the stands." I definitely remember that.
