http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors;_ylt=At6mIxlquhlEJxutyqAE6U.8vLYF James Posey has been to Houston before, and one of the predominant rumors of the day has him pondering the chance to play there again. The Celtics would be happy to re-sign Posey, who was a crucial part of their championship equation, but they don't want to ink him to a long-term deal. Several other teams, including the Rockets, would like to lure him away from Boston and will give him the long-term deal he wants. The Rockets were hoping to be players in the Corey Maggette market, but seem to have been beaten out by the San Antonio Spurs, or perhaps the Orlando Magic. Posey is no Maggette, but he's an outstanding defender and a capable scorer who could be a nice complement to Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady. More than anything, Posey is all about the intangibles. He gets the key loose ball or makes the big steal saving a game for his team. Houston is also in negotiations with Dikembe Mutombo, who is likely to return to the team for one more season, Spurs free agent guard Brent Barry, and forward Carl Landry. Source: Hoopsworld
Team Intangibles! Maybe if you multiply Battier by Posey they will become something Tangible. i * i = -1 (Whoosh) Stupid math jokes ftl.
Get it done Morey...sing posey and than you can think about trading battier (only iw we can get somebody a lot better, for example artest).
Sign Posey and Battier becomes expendable. Posey would be cheaper than Battier and arguably better. This would be a very good move and so would trading Battier in a subsequent package deal for a 3rd scorer.
Their source is the Hoopsworld article referenced in another thread. Can't we kill this thread since we already have one with this information?
If you kill this thread, two more just like it with the same article referenced will pop up in a few hours anyways - so might as well just leave this one as is. You try and shut down the rookie and they'll just barrage you with two more new n improved ones anyways......you can't win you can only hope to contain em..
Rockets need to put the pipe down and actually see the difference in talent between tier 1 and tier 2 teams. These comments are based on the title alone.
Yeah, good luck getting Posey from a championship team. There's no way he's signing with any other team.
word of the day: Delusional (sp) why do our fans think ppl "magically" want to come to Houston its pretty well known that tmac is crap and yao is way too soft we have no big money options to throw around everyone's living this pipe dream in their drug induced mind EXPECT MORE OF THE SAME NEXT YEAR. hopefully these draft pics and landry playing solid with scola will be our real achievable improvements
What does Posey bring that Battier doesn't? Both great D, spot up 3 point shooters. Neither create their shots, neither drive to the rack. We already have Battier for a couple more years, why not spend our $ on someone younger and more athletic?
What's the difference between Posey, the first edition w/Houston and the James Posey that has won championships with Miami and now Boston? The rings? Why are we always letting guys go, watch them play great for another team, and then bend over backwards to get them back, only to remember why we released them the first time. ...Steve Francise, Mike James....Weren't we trying to bring back K. Cato at one point? We need a 2 guard that can score when T-Mac is on the bench &/or injured. Both will occur at some point during the year.....just like all the rest. But maybe, just maybe, our management team will plan for it w/an offensive minded backup. Not some undersized 2 guard who is actually a short pg that can't dribble or pass.
The article saids Boston dont want to ink him to a long term deal. The guy has been a key piece for other teams and not made much money in the past. Posey wants more money then what they are offering which probably aint much. To think Posey cant help this team even with a Battier is brain dead. So what if they do the same thing the most key issue is T-Mac and stamina for the last 3 minutes. Maybe Adelman has it in his mind that Posey could be that piece he needs to help rather then having Luther Head defensive liability on the court. Remember not much teams have cap space and most have already locked up their big names.
Thats the point. You can sign Posey to do what Battier does. Then deal Battier for a nice player in return. The team ends up being better.
If the Celtics aren't willing to give Posey the long-term deal he's looking for what makes you think the Rockets will? Besides, Battier has a more than reasonable contract so I highly doubt we get Posey just to make Battier expendable.
Nobody knows for sure what the front offices agenda is. My point is he is the most valued available left on the market and Battier and Posey can atleast lock down the wings even if Head is under sized. Posey can probably shoot just as well as Head on top of that. Remember Head was a no show in the playoffs? Posey 2 rings? The article is just saying compared to what Boston wants to ink him too and as to what Rockets can ink him too he makes more money here then with Boston. It could mean that Posey wants a long term deal and Boston cant offer him that. It could also mean they have enough to resign Landry too exceding the luxary tax in a match situation. It could also mean Posey wants a long term deal instead of resigning with Boston.
