He is a combo guard that left UT earlier than he really should have.

The Rockets are very familiar with him, and they have followed him closely.

He has been on the Vipers this season and has a very efficient and solid season.

He is a good (and rapidly improving) three point shooter that also can penetrate and draw fouls. He also protects the ball well.

I can see why the Rockets have interest. He has shown marked improvement at what the Rockets want at the 1/2.

He is possibly someone that could replace Beverley or Williams long term.

I honestly haven't watched any Vipers games this season, but looking at Payton's numbers, I'd say Taylor has been significantly better in the D-League at this point. He's scoring at a higher clip, dishing out more assists and scoring far more efficiently from the field. Plus, you're judging them from an extremely small sample size in the Summer League and preseason, and it's not exactly like Payton was lighting it up in those games either.

Really judging a player because of one freakin pre-season?

Yeah, in college I always thought of him as a poor man's Iverson. They have similar body types, and he definitely has a similar knack for penetrating, getting to the rim and drawing contact. Taylor also always seemed to step up in crunch time. But he was such a bad 3-point shooter, and this efficiency this season is a real surprise to me. If he has legitimately found his 3-point stroke, he could actually be a solid NBA prospect.

Exactly. Taylor sucked in preseason and summer league, but so did Payton.

I think many here on CF just like the idea that we'd have Gary Payton's son on our team and overlook the fact that he really hasn't shown all that much at the D-League level yet.

Better roster spot than KJ at this point. Why? 1. Not Hardens back-up. 2. Ultra quick on offense and defense. 3. Could always hit free-throws. 4. Now his 3 point shot is improving. 5. Is fine learning in the D-League. 6. And Morey's favorite... value.

I was literally talking to my friend about signing him after the Timberwolves game! I've been waiting on Morey to do this for some time now, dude is balling out in the D league.

From the highlights, looks like his game fits our style. On all those shots, I did not see one single mid range shot. It was either a layup/dunk, an assist or 3 ptr.

He's shooting 41 percent through 12 D-League games so far on roughly four attempts per game. But he hasn't traditionally been a great shooter, which makes me wonder if this is an anomaly over a small sample size or if he's actually really making improvements on his jumper.

    Taylor or Thomas?

Yep, i don't see a Thomas on the Vipers so it's definitely Taylor.

Must continue the tradition of stocking the bottom of the roster with scrubby point guards.

    Jason Terry
    Pablo Prigioni
    Bobby Brown
    Tyler Ennis
    Marcelo Huertas
    Isaiah Taylor

Weren't interested in Deron Williams. Were interested in Jose Manuel Calderon. Signs Isaiah Taylor.

I like this signing on a Budinger-type deal. These types of deals are going to be very valuable going forward. A lot of the guys on the team are going to be expecting big paydays soon; they'll need lower cost replacements.

If you can't find an impactful guy with these 2 roster spots, this type of move is the next best thing.

No problem with this. We effectively have 3 spots available if we waive Brown. If we only sign one buyout, id like to see us use the last spot on Tokoto.
