Glenn Robinson III to hold upcoming workouts with Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns

ANN ARBOR -- Coming off stops in Atlanta and Charlotte this week, Glenn Robinson III's tour of potential NBA teams will continue with trips to Houston and Phoenix.

The former Michigan forward told MLive on Friday that he will hold individual workouts with the Houston Rockets on Sunday and the Phoenix Suns next Tuesday.

Robinson is projected as a late-first-round to early-second-round selection in the June 26 NBA draft.

The Rockets hold No. 25 and No. 42 selections in the draft.

The Suns are expected to be one of the draft's most active teams, selecting at No. 14, No. 18 and No. 27 in the first round, and No. 50 in the second round.

Robinson, a 6-foot-6 forward, started all 76 games in his two-year Michigan career, averaging 13.1 points and 4.4 rebounds as a sophomore. He declared for the draft on April 15 alongside former teammate Nik Stauskas.

GR III would be a huge pick. Low risk and incredibly high ceiling, he could be a special player and help with his D immediately.

Big Sky MVP Berry hopes to impress in NBA draft workouts

Weber State basketball fans watched what Davion Berry did as the Big Sky Conference MVP. Now he wants to impress another audience: NBA scouts and executives.

The 6-foot-4 guard/forward from Oakland, Calif., has already made the most of his chances to be seen since ending his basketball career at Weber State. He scored a game-high 15 points to lead the West team at the Reese’s College All-Star Game at the Final Four in April. Next, Berry averaged 14 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in three games at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, a showcase for college seniors.

The next few weeks will be important as Berry looks forward to the June 26 NBA Draft.

Tuesday, he’ll work out for the Chicago Bulls, then Thursday he’ll be back in Utah to work out for the Jazz.

Then he has the Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards lined up for more workouts, he said.

How good is the 7'2 Li from China? 21 NBA teams watched his workout. Any chance some team may pick him in second round? I know there was a basketball match between chinese and aussie team last week, and just found this youtube video. He had a nice dunk that shakes the rim. Kinda impressive.

What are we even targeting in this draft? We already have a solid starting group and the way McHale plays Harden and Parsons it seems like a back-up SG and SF would get lost in the rotation.

He's got a slight hitch in his stroke, releasing it on the descent instead of as he rises. Still very accurate. But the hitch will hinder his range at the NBA level.

Morey has said that the Rockets look for particular elite skill(s) later in the draft. In general Rockets picks all have some trait that stands out. Canaan, Jermaine Taylor, Aaron Brooks all fit the "great shooter/shot creator" mold. Landry, Parsons, and Budinger were forwards who had great athleticism. Joey Dorsey was top notch rebounder/defender.

All of these players had huge deficiencies too. Parsons couldn't shoot. Brooks had no PG skills. Landry lacks height to be a PF. And so on. The Rockets prefer the flawed but talented players over more well rounded mediocrities.

Position wise? I don't think the Rockets care. BPA clearly.

You mean a "Chinese" player. Hammed Haddadi or Ha Seung Jin wouldn't have the same marketability.

Akeem Richmond sat in an office at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, nervously awaiting his first NBA pre-draft workout with the Houston Rockets.

Looking to make a good first impression, East Carolina’s all-time leader in three-pointers was outfitted in a collared shirt and khakis, before he went through a car wash of different written tests and interviews with the team's coaches and front office.

“If you’re down two and we put the ball into your hands, what would you do? If you miss a shot, and you’re down two and the media blames you for the loss for missing the shot, how do you handle that?” Richmond recounted some of the questions he was asked.

Then it was off to the training room, where the six-foot Sanford, N.C. native changed into more comfortable clothing and was next measured, weighted and asked to do a vertical leap. It wasn’t until after that Richmond could at last focus on what he had devoted the previous 17 years of his life to: basketball.

But as he walked towards the Rockets’ practice courts, his focus shifted once again.

“As soon as I turned the corner to go into the practice facility, that’s when I saw James Harden. I was star struck,” Richmond said in a phone interview with InsideECUSports.com. “Me being from a smaller school, I guess I wasn’t used to that. So I was just staring at him for like five minutes.”

However, rather than having the presence of one of his basketball heroes negatively affect his workout, it actually enhanced it — he said, “it built my confidence. When I saw him, I said ‘I’m ready to hoop. I’m ready to show him and all these other guys that I belong.’”

Richmond then went through several drills in a two-hour workout that tested his ball-handling, ability to come off pick-and-rolls and screens, as well as his scoring at the rim. It was all about basketball again and he was pleased with his outing.

“It really couldn’t have gone any better than it did today,” said Richmond. “That was the workout I always dreamed of. I made a lot of shots.”

Then, it was finished. There wasn’t much conversation afterward, just a friendly “thank you for coming” and “we’ll be in touch with you and your agent.”
