    Clutch:

Calvin Watkins was on 790 a week or two ago and I remember him saying, D-Mo is 100% done with this organization and has no interest in coming back. Made it seem like he was frustrated and ready to take off.

So was Hakeem at one point....and as a RFA, he really has no choice.

Sure he does. The reason they need to woo him is because if he signs an offer sheet early in FA, the Rockets won't be able to keep him. They'll need to convince him to hold off on it for a while so they can make other moves. If he wants out, he'll have tons of offers early, he'll be able to make it happen.

They have enough cap room and the right of first refusal - DMo should not consider doing ANYTHING other than getting the best offer he can.

They won't use cap room to keep him, it would ruin their FA plans. He either waits till after that and signs using Bird rights, or he's not going to be here next season.

RFA can sign offersheets after the moratorium is over. At that point if we are to get Horford/Durant or Conley or any other good UFA for example Rhyno we would already know it.
And you never use cap room to keep a RFA. Because you always have his BIRD RIGHTS.

You have a very short window after they sign an offer sheet to match it, if you can't get your other FA work done, when you match, it eats up cap space. If the top tier FA's want to take their time, the deadline for matching could be before they make up their mind. In that scenario, they'd choose to not match DMo. He could make that scenario more likely by signing an offer sheet as soon as possible. He could make that scenario less likely by holding off on signing an offer sheet.

If he manages to stay healthy he can be the second best scorer on this team so I would really like that we keep him.

I imagine the Rockets want to sign him to a deal close to, at or under what his cap hold will be anyways.

A one year 6 million dollar deal with a player option could be exactly what Dmo is looking for, another season to redeem him self for a big contract when the salary explores again next off season.

My guess is that he'd have a really good laugh at that offer.

The cap will be even bigger in 2017-2018 season ($108 million). He may ask for insane money. I'd rather lock him up for at least 3 with a PO in the 4th.

    Why?

Dmo is damaged goods right now, dude had back surgery and played bad. Only has half a season of good play under his belt.

He might get a 3/30 deal, but if he believes in him self he might rather sign a one year deal and try the market again next year where he can get a much bigger deal if he plays a good healthy season.

We don't have just enough capspace for one FA this year. We have what? 45 or something like that? It's very easy to solve this problem with such capspace.
Do you know that the league gives the chance to file the contracts with the order that helps your cap?And if there's an issue they even let you refile them later.

If you had back issues that put your whole carreer in jeopardy would you take a one year deal? Leave your family without a stable future because of ...basically uneccesary greed to take such a risk?

Last summer answered the question. Only a single good and sought after roleplayer Afflalo chose to take a discount to have a better contract with the next caprise.
And before that happened all were analysts were claiming that every FA would take a 1 year. But they were proved wrong. Athletes value security most of all.
And DMO's injury isn't simple. It's serious and can easily be recurring. He already had to face rejection by the Pistons medical staff. I don't think his confidence after that became all time high.

Spoiler warning: If we don't resign DMo, DD will go full-on Cersei and burn this forum down.

I'm no Bima, but im pretty sure we need our cap space to sign other free agents; we can always go above our cap space to sign Dmo because we have his bird rights.

If I'm Dmo there is no way in hell I wait on Houston. I think he's gone.
