A few weeks ago, ESPN reported that Gersson Rosas, a longtime executive under Daryl Morey, was set to be a candidate for the Charlotte Hornets’ vacant general-manager position. The Hornets recently announced that they would not be renewing the contract of GM Rich Cho, who had been with the team since 2011.

Now, the New York Times‘ Marc Stein is reporting that Rosas has emerged as a serious candidate for the job, alongside former Los Angeles Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak.

Rosas has been a part of Houston’s front office for 17 seasons.

Good move for the Hornets, bummer for us. He's been great for the Rockets.

Anyone have links at what he handles? I only remember his name from when he stayed with Cuban for a summer.

If he gets the job, hope it works out better than the Mavericks.

Would hate to lose Gerson again, behind the scenes he's gotta be huge asset for us.

Hope Charlotte takes the bait for Kupchek. That's not saying he's a bad GM either, the guy who put to together one of the best dynasty's ever. Although I think the limelight of LA helped draw those players too

A UNC graduate AND played in the NBA and won titles. Not who I would pick but knowing what we know about MJ I can see the appeal.

Rosas would be a good fit. You’d see their roster be overhauled.

Unless Rosas went to UNC too I don't think he's going there. I'm sure the smart people around MJ want Rosas but Jordan does what he does.

He has to know better than joining an MJ team. Career suicide.

@topfive's_gf and I were at the game in the MODA Center last night and I noticed that Gerson was sitting two rows in front of us. Every time he pulled out his cell phone, I had to resist trying to take a pic of his texts to enlarge it and see if there was anything in there from Michael Jordan himself.

Just before the second half, I walked up and introduced myself to him and told him I was a longtime Rox fan. Very nice guy, really genuine and down-to-earth. We talked for a minute and I wished him good luck regarding the Hornets gig. When I asked him if he was optimistic about his chances, his response was:

"Hey, we've still got a lot of work to do with this team (the Rockets) this year."

Nice to know his focus is where it should be. :)

I almost wonder if Rosas is being built up as a "candidate" so when MJ eventually picks Kupcheck he can say he looked at more candidates vs just choosing Mitch right away.
