I looked up some Rockets 3pts vs 2pts stats for this season.

    3pts
3pts attempts per game, 45.4, No.1 in the league, 7.2 more than 2nd place
3pts percentage, 35.6%, only No.10 in the league, that gives us

    2pts
2pts attempts per game, 42.0, last place in the league, 7.8 less than 29th place
2pts percentage, 55.1%, 3rd place in the league

If our 2pts shots are almost top of the league high percentage, why not try to create more of those shots, instead of taking them so much less than everyone else; at the same time our 3pts percentage is only average yet we take way more of them than any other team?

At 35.6% we get 1.068pts per possession from 3s, at 55.1% we get 1.102pts per possession from 2s

Warriors aka the greatest 3pts shooting team ever only takes 34.4 3pts shots per game, 11 less than us per game.

That makes sense, although the 3pter opens up 2pters so just taking more could theoretically lower the 2pt%.

Do you have the stats for the playoffs?

If the only 2s you’re attempting are layups and dunks, you better shoot them at a high percentage.

Obviously those percentages change if you start taking less threes.

Our 2 point percentage is that high because of the fact we attempt so many layups and dunks. If we attempt to take more 2's, it won't be because we magically can take a dunk shot whenever we want -- it'll be because we included the mid-range 2 like other teams do. When we do that, our percentage will go down just like every other team's. The Warriors are good because they are a top 3-4 shooting team from almost every point on the court and in the mid-range they are probably the best (Durant is insanely good).
