I just got back from Las Vegas for a business trip and checked the 2008 NBA Champion odds and they have the Rockets at 15/1, pretty good I thought, they had just been updated. Just curious if anybody knows what those odds were prior to the Scola and Francis signings, my guess is they moved up but I'm curious really if it did have an impact. Any insight?
Do I have to be in Vegas to make these bets? I'm not a gambling man...but I'd be willing to take a small risk every now and then.
From what I understand, 15/1 means that if you bet $10, you would win $150 however the house gets an extra dollar so you'd be betting $11 to win $150.
These odds really don't mean anything. It doesn't mean that we have X% chance to win it all or that Vegas thinks we're one of the top X teams. All it means is that they set the line at 15/1 because that's where they think they can make the most money. They don't necessarily set the lines according to who they think will win, but rather where they can maximize their profit, regardless of who wins the title.
idk, i always liked us when everyone's dissing us and we're under the radar. this team is too complacent sometimes.
I'll be going down to The Strip this evening...I'll see if I can pick up some NBA futures sheets at different casinos and report back. I usually follow the lines at the Station Casinos (Green Valley Ranch, Sunset Station, Red Rock)...that's where most of the locals hangout...and we get 2 for 1 buffet coupons.
No thats wrong. Bet 15, win $150. you are thinking of betting on the spread when you get a line of -110 usually where you bet $11 to win $10.

That is only true to a point. Yes they are just trying to make cash, but the way they do that is by giving the best odds to the best teams so if one of those teams wins they minimize their losses. Vegas hopes every year that the top teams win because they will end up paying huge sums of money if a longshot takes the crown. Therfore it is in their best intrest to give out accurate odds. Though this does really mean nothing. We know our team is good it is no suprise that they feel the same, in the end a title is not won in the state of Nevada.
