Apologies if a thread has been started, but if someone has ESPN insider, could they post this article? http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11012674/nfl-ranking-rosters-all-32-teams It's the rankings of teams, and I'm curious to see what our ranking is... Will rep!
[rquoter]25. Houston Texans Excitement is in the air in Houston at the prospect of teaming Jadeveon Clowney with J.J. Watt and unleashing destruction on opposing offenses, but the problem is that the roster is riddled with issues everywhere else. Watt was the best player in football a year ago and a virtually unstoppable force inside, generating 85 total pressures and earning them at a rate of one every 6.1 rushing attempts -- a rate better than anybody not named Robert Quinn -- and yet the Texans still stumbled to just two wins on the season. Clowney will no doubt help, but the team needs a revamp elsewhere. The offensive line, not far removed from being the best unit in football, is suddenly a questionable entity now that they are moving away from the zone-blocking scheme that they executed so well. The defensive secondary is talented but inconsistent, and the biggest problem of all is that there is still no real answer at quarterback, with Ryan Fitzpatrick being a caretaker at best. By the numbers: The Texans span the entire color-coded spectrum, with their projected starters featuring everything from a pair of blue-chippers to a rookie and a player in Jerrell Powe whom we just have not seen enough snaps to accurately quantify. The real issue, though, is with below-average players. Eight of them (33.3 percent) currently occupy places among the starting lineups. Key: Blue=Elite; Green=High quality; Light green=Good starter; Yellow=Average starter; Orange=Below-average starter; Red=Poor starter; Gray=Not enough information; Purple=Rookie[/rquoter]
J-Jo and K-Jax should both be in orange. And Brian Cushing should be in light green or yellow. But none of that matters with a below average quarterback. 6-10 if we're lucky, but may be worst.
I won't pretend to be an expert in player analysis, but how is Ryan Griffin ranked "higher" than Garrett Graham? At the least shouldn't he be in gray for "not enough information?"
That's to be expected after a 2-14 season, I expect some knees will jerk pretty hard about mid-season when the Texans are better than expected. They certainly jerked hard enough when the Texans were worse than expected last year.
It would make sense if they had them listed as TE #1 and TE #2 though. Graham is a below average TE #1 but Griffin is an average TE #2.
Yeah that would make sense. I actually am excited about the potential of Griffin, but we really haven't seen anything from him.
These are Pro Football Focus analytics that measure these guys based on individual performance. It is a benchmark for NFL player ratings.
I'm kind of surprised that they have Ben Jones slated as LG. For a team that supposedly drafted well and supposedly has a ton of holes, it's odd that they only project one rookie, the #1 overall pick, to start. You'd think you'd see Su'a-Filo as the LG and probably even Fiedorowicz as one of the top 2 TEs and/or Nix as NT.
It's way too early to project that many rookies, but IMO Fiedorowicz will get plenty of snaps and Su'a-Filo will start for sure. Nix will depend on his health.
i hate monitor calibration. the screen is telling me that Duane brown is light green, is that correct? One of the best tackles in foosball gets a light green=good starter?
Well, he did take a step back last year. He had a nagging injury and came in trying to play at a lighter weight. He realized that wasn't a good idea but it can be hard to add mass in the middle of the season. I'm confident he'll be back to normal this year, but it's hard to argue that he was an elite LT last season.
The grades are based on last year's performance not on how good they will be next year. That is why the rookies are in a category by themselves.
