It seems as though respected veteran LA writer Mark Heisler took some issue with ESPN hack Chris Palmer's "reporting" on Dwight Howard...

@ESPNChrisPalmer Might as as well do your corrections now. It's nice to see an old school award winning journalist call out what most ESPN guys are doing right now...

Heisler was floating a bunch of BS about him going to the Warriors. Both got it wrong.

Yep. That's all I remember of Heisler.

These guys spread that Dwight was 50/50 stuff when he was on his way back to LA:

    Alex Kennedy
    Chris Broussard
    Ramona Shelburne

Why is the level of NBA reporting so bad? Its like a bunch of fans just trying to publish stories as a hobby. I mean the difference between these so called reporters and fans wildly speculating on fan forums or blogs is almost indistinguishable. Everyone seems to have an agenda too. I've totally switched off NBA reporters and insiders that quote league sources. Rather the logical presentations of the pros and cons of Clutch Fan members. Well, some of them anyways.

Yeah he was way off, but the difference is that he admitted it and owned his mistake. He's calling out Palmer for completely ignoring how adament he was that D12 was staying. I like it. We need more of this if we ever hope for accountability to come back to reporting.

Heisler's sources were GS side, cyberx here even said the same thing (that it came from his sources GS side), Heisler's past gives him more connection to Jerry West than anyone else these days as well, at least that's what the lakers forums insiders said if i remember.

Palmer on the other hand was just plain making it up.

    Heiseler: Hearing Warriors
Palmer: He's definitely staying with the Lakers
Jordan Schultz: He's 100% going to the Mavs. You'll all see. LOL No way he goes to the Rockets.

I believe what happened was that DH's camp leaked the GSW interest early on to see if they could identify who was feeding info to the media. At that point GSW was not a real possibility, but the press ran with it regardless. It was only after DH met with Mark Jackson that they actually came into consideration. Shortly after that GSW began making some bold moves and it became the Cinderella story du Jour.

Hilarious, considering Heisler was a troll throughout the whole situation as well. They were both dead wrong about Dwight.

They're = to Kennedy and Broussard and Shelburne, which is bad.

The reporters were so off because there were no leaks. However, all the reporters had pressure to "get news" from their sources, and with no leaks they had to guess and give vague information.

To this day I do not believe that Golden State was ever the favorite with Dwight. I think Howard wanted the Rockets before the recruiting started, and he wanted Houston throughout the process.

I wonder how much manipulative NBA front offices played into the situation? Each FO had ample reason to attempt to manipulate media spin in the days leading up to Howard's decision. We will never know.

I read recently that front offices have been known to ask writers to spin things in their favor in exchange for a real scoop later on but Chris Palmer was just bad. If you read his twitter feed you can see just how delusional the guy is and obviously he doesn't have respect from other writers or players (look at KD's tweet in the other thread).

When I first started my twitter I followed him along with a lot of other ESPN and local/national writers... it did not take too many of his asinine lists for me to realize what he was and to unfollow him. Unfortunately he still has 80k other people reading him.
