COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. - It was a common site in this posh enclave: Sherra Wright, walking down Whisperwood Drive, shouting into her cell phone and making demands for money.

"It was really bizarre," Patricia Coleman told the Daily News Thursday night. Coleman's home abuts Wright's house in this quiet suburb of Shelby County, 20 miles east of Memphis.

"She wouldn't talk in the house," Coleman said. "She would walk up and down the street and scream and holler. Neighbors would call and ask what's going on? She was always saying she needed money. That's one of the reasons we're concerned today."

Wright is the ex-wife of former NBA basketball player Lorenzen Wright, whose slain body was found in a deserted area of southeast Memphis on July 28. While Memphis police are in the midst of a homicide investigation, Sherra Wright, who moved to the neighborhood in November and is described by neighbors as distant and aloof, has emerged as a person of interest in the police investigation as well as a lightning rod for speculation among Memphis residents. The Wrights divorced in February.

On Thursday, men in work clothes and women in high heels could be seen walking up a muddy hill to the spot where Lorenzen Wright's body was found on July 19, riddled with bullets in a brush maybe 100 yards from a narrow, unlit road. A makeshift grave with a marker and the stench of burned remains is all that is left of the crime scene. Stuffed animals and signs of affection for Wright were left at the entrance to the field where his body was found.

Homicide detectives searched Sherra Wright's home on Sunday, focusing on a fire pit in her backyard that was raging on July 19, the night Lorenzen Wright disappeared. Coleman remembers seeing Sherra Wright in the backyard by the fire. "She was back there with another man," Coleman said. "I thought it was strange because it was like one of the hottest days of the year."

After the detectives left Sherra Wright's house, Coleman said Sherra "or someone who looked like Sherra" returned to the home, venturing to the back patio for a couple of minutes. Sherra Wright has not publicly spoken about Lorenzen Wright's death, and no one answered the door to her home on Thursday night.

Gail Mathes, an attorney for Sherra Wright, told the Daily News that her client couldn't be a suspect in the murder because "she didn't have any motive to kill because he had no money."

According to Mathes, Lorenzen Wright was "broke" at the time of his death, as evidenced by the foreclosure of two homes he owned, she said. Mathes said Lorenzen Wright had a life insurance policy in his name but that she was unaware of who the beneficiary is.

Mathes has said her client was threatened by three gunmen who showed up at her home in search of Lorenzen Wright, six weeks before he was killed. Sherra Wright never told authorities, fearing for her life if she spoke out, Mathes said.

Coleman said she found Sherra Wright's behavior strange in this upscale neighborhood, but that "everyone kind of left her alone and gave her privacy. It's a nice and quiet neighborhood. That's what we like about it."

I agree with you. I'm just hoping she didn't. That would suck for the children to grow up without both of their parents because one of the parents was selfish and stupid enough to kill the father.

Well IMHO if this ex wanted to kill him there's only two reasons:

    1. She wanted the insurance $$$

    2. She wanted him dead no matter what.

Considering LW was riddled with bullets it may not have been her, as I don't think normal girls are cold-blooded enough to do that. IMHO its far more likely LW borrowed money from loan sharks and was unable to pay it.

I saw a video clip with her in it, she certainly looked crazy enough, but who knows.

I don't think she killed him but it's a good chance she had him killed.

Or like you said there is also the possibility that those 3 men had something to do with it. Hopefully she wasn't involved with them in killing him.

I just hope they get all the facts and this case doesn't go unsolved.

You shouldn't share because you are full of sh**. None of your bs story makes sense. Outside of a club? The whole incident happened on a street in front of townhouses. Landry ran to a house banging on the door for somebody to call the police. If it happened in a "club area" there would be other people walking out or maybe even a door man who would have seen 2 guys shooting Carl Landry in the parking lot.

Umm even if all that was true, I'm pretty sure Carl isn't going to comment on a serious situation like that with some random fan.
