Yahoo Sports reports that the Clippers are "nearing an agreement" with free-agent center Byron Mullens on a two-year deal.

Mullens started 41 games for the Bobcats last year, averaging 11 points and six rebounds per game with a 12.3 PER. He goes from a part-time starter with the Bobcats to being the end-of-the-bench big for the Clippers, which says a lot about both organizations. It's actually a smart move by the Clippers, who need another big badly, and Mullens has height and a little bit of skill. He's undeniably an upgrade over Ronny Turiaf, who departed in free agency.

The move also likely paves the way for the Lakers to sign Lamar Odom. Both LA teams had been talking to Odom and Mullens.

My God, Odom is just being passed around LA like currency now, isn't he?? It's quite sad really because I remember a time when I would have loved to have him on the Rockets. Now, he's just part of the landscape of Staples Center, kind of like Jack Nicholson.

Most of the contracts are the Vet's minimum. Same with the Miami Heat. Where there is a pursuit of rings, the veterans are surely to follow.

yep.... Morey' approach however I think is on the opposite scale. He tries to find upcoming rookies or undiscovered gems with a lot of upside.

I'm still waiting if we could land someone for the vet's minimum now.

Surprised it's come to this for Mullens. Really surprised. I think he'll be a good fit for the Clippers. A complete contrast to Jordan's style of play. I imagine Rivers will coach him up real nice too. I don't like Mullens' play. At all. But I would have taken him on the Rockets.

I'm not sure what the hate on this guy is.

Averaged 10/6 last year while playing for the Charlotte Bobcraps.

CP3 has so many toys to play with.

It's not so much stacked as it has pieces that make sense. I'm not big on Griffin, which is why I think Paul wins MVP next year. Calling it now. I called Melo winning the scoring title last year around this time. I'm a genius like that.
