    Simple hypothesis:
Same roster as of now, only replacing Howard by Yao, do you think the Rockets will have a better chance of winning the title?

IMO, this will definitely be a championship-caliber team. Offensively, Yao provides a consistent low post scoring option, and fronting would no longer be an issue due to Harden & Parsons penetration skills. Also, Asik gives solid back up mins to keep Yao from being fatigue. And you have elite 3 point shooters in Harden, Parsons and Bev to stretch the space. Of course the pace will have to slow down to incorporate Yao into the system.

Defensively, Yao is not a good pick&roll defender like Howard, but he did provide good rim protection. Overall I see a bit drop on the defensive end.

    Please discuss.

I dunno. Depends how badly Harden wants to slack off defensively. I think he does that crap purposely so he can be the top dogg

Better late then never. But yeah Parsons would be good for Yao.

We'd be better on offense at times, but Yao can still easily be game planned for. We'd definitely be worse on team defense. Yao was a very good defender, but Dwight is better and a far far far better rebounder.

Something to think about though, we are terrible at feeding the post and that's with a super athletic Dwight receiving. So if Dwight has trouble, Yao would have a really hard time ever getting it in the post. I would bet McHale would go to a pure pick and roll system with Yao.

If you are talking about the prime and healthy Yao, he's clearly better than Howard.

Not only that, we would not need DMo's low post game and we could trade him for a better PG.

Yes, I prefer one injured guy over the other injured guy.

Yao is and always has been better than Howard, and always will be.

Much better. Yao was a serious offensive threat and rarely missed a free throw.

Replace this Howard with '08-'09 Howard and we have a dynasty. Yao would be amazing right now but Howard was considered the 2nd best player in all of basketball at that point and even beat LeBron that postseason.

On a pure healthy-to-healthy comparison, hell yeah. For a one year title run with zero future ramifications, Yao and Harden would be a destructive team with essentially all of the pluses of having Howard (save perhaps Howard's P&R defense) and few of the minuses.

Given hindsight, though, '09 Yao was about done. Howard's story has yet to be written. I'll take the unknown over the known tragic ending.
