Zydrunas Ilgauskas (Cleveland Cavaliers) 12 16.17 For our stars, Yao ranks 4th at the position of center behind shaq, brad miller and ben wallace. SF ranks 7th behind a lot of point guards. Both of them are not too impressive up to the moment.
But to be #32 and higher among the ENTIRE league is impressive. How many in the NBA? Don't be such a nay sayer.
A lot of those players aren't in the middle of a revamp of their whole offensive scheme. If you think about it, considering we are trying to change from a guard oriented game to a inside and out, and the fact that Francis hasn't had a healthy team in awhile, I think those two guys are doing pretty well. Yao had a huge game yesterday. He is finally found that fine line between finesse and aggressiveness.
http://www.nba.com/statistics/2002/default_regular_season_leaders/LeagueLeadersEFFQuery.html take a look at last yrs.... Francis is just behind Kidd as a PG..... Rockets of this season are having a pretty balance game for everyone.... u wun see a specific players getting a high efficiency rating in this kinda offense.... get real....
The Efficiency Rating is strongly rooted in points scored and doesn't have that strong a correlation to how well a team plays. For example, Iverson is 11 notches higher than Yao. The Iverson-less Sixers just went into TOR last night and handled the Raptors. On the other hand, the Rockets are not a high scoring offensive team. Plus, the points they do score are well distributed. On any given night, the Rockets have 3 potential 20 ppg scorers (Yao, Steve, Cat) and 2 others (JJax & MoT) that are very capable 15 ppg scorers. No big deal IMO.
Even though Efficiency is probably the best single statistic to measure a player's contributation, it still doesn't catch many intangibles. It doesn't include stuff like how many shots you altered, whether you can create your own shots or shots for your teammates, or whether you make your teammates better. Yao is a much better center tha Miller and Wallace, because he can do so many things like mentioned above, but doesn't show in any statistics.
