This is fine. All of these things are how the game should be called. That said I expect we see Harden's continuations cut down (rightfully so) but no significant change in how continuations are called leaguewide, which sucks.
This doesn't change anything, because 98% of all the fouls on Harden are STILL fouls. James gets in his shooting motion when people defend the pick and roll incorrectly. It is a foul.
Last year when the refs had changes of emphasis, they provided video examples of each. I'd like to see them clearly define things when they have the press release.
The refs changed the rules before and made Kevin Martin obsolete but I don't think it will have a major impact on Harden although he's going to lose alot of those 3 point free throws. Lou Williams might take a big hit in production this year though. Harden beforehand was still an expert at drawing fouls going to the rim, and off the dribble. As he gets older, going to the rim will be harder and harder to do without getting injured, but I think he's still built for it for a few more years. And even if he is only able to get common fouls out of it, its still a pretty useful skill. The main thing is just seeing how he plays as an off the ball scorer when the ball is in CP3's hands. When the ball is in his hands he has a ton of ways to be elite so I'm not worried about this rule change yet unless Harden allows it to affect him mentally if he is trying to get those calls again and doesn't get them.
Lou WIlliams will find a way to score with any rules, in any era. There is no rule that is going to stop that guy from getting buckets.
Meanwhile the league will continue to allow Kawhi infinite travels and the Warriors infinite illegal screens.
No. Eventually the new harden rule will evolve into just banning Harden from NBA. Looks like the refs who already barely can call game as it is will just get more things messed up.
Did Howard Beck name this the Harden rule or did the NBA call it that. If the NBA did, Harden is truly screwed.
What's the use of having rules of you're not going to enforce them? You're not allowed to make contact with a player while he's in the process of shooting the ball or its a shooting foul. I get that its not very fun from a fan's perspective when it happens to your team but the rules are the rules. NBA should just bring hand checking back, imo. Been saying this for years now. Of course, it would hurt Golden State too much for them to afford to do this, so let's just penalize Harden.
