Why do the Nets blackout their crowd? Like you can't see past the first three rows because it is so dim in the arena... You would think they would want to show off their rabid die hard fan base!
Yeah it's like a theater thing. I think the Lakers did it first and the reason is to emphasize the stage the players are playing on.
i think it's a pretty gay thing to do and takes away from the environment. prob also takes away home court advantage when all the fans feel like they're watching a show rather than participating in a game.

The East coast teams have always had dimly lit arenas. This was to make it harder for Western Conference teams who are used to playing in well lit arenas.
I always thought it was like to say "The show is right here on the court." The Lakers do it and the Clippers don't (if I recall right). Just a marketing thing.
Seems pretty lame to me... I mean people are paying to watch a basketball game so they don't need to be reminded of what they need to be watching. the funny thing is is has actually caused me to pay more attention to the crowd during this game than i would have normally.
They probably keep the lights off cause the lights are too bright for all those 1st time weed smokers........
I thought they did it in LA/NY because too many stars are on the sidelines and it distracts the players. Won't work in Houston because the lower bowl is usually empty and everyone is too busy being enchanted by Chandler. He's so hot, that Chandler.
