So we know he has signed an MLE contract with us. 5 mil starting this year, and possibly steadily increasing each year from there right? How hard would it be to offload him with Tmac in a trade? Would teams looking to shed expenses be willing to take him in a deal?

It probably wouldn't be too hard, really. I think a lot of teams would probably still be interested in him. The real question is whether Morey still believes Ariza is a bargain or not.

Give him time, he needs to adjust.

Ariza shouldn't be a liability -- he's an asset for a team with enough talent. As the 3rd or 4th scoring option, he wouldn't have as much pressure on him and would most likely relax and play within his current capabilities. Until the Rockets add a couple more strong starters and get to that point, though, Trevor's more a barometer of how far we have to go.

I think from another team's perspective, a trade involving Ariza and TMac alone is still a very high risk/high reward proposition. Putting the numbers aside, the combination of Tmac and Ariza could prove to be fantastic for a struggling team. Ariza is a good defender and has shown he can play off the ball with the likes of a Kobe Bryant. TMac is a complete unknown at this point. He probably won't ever be what he once was, but he still has tremendous potential to be a savvy veteran who can still score. The alternative is that he ends up being a bust.

I think the Rockets would have to sweeten the deal with another known asset..like a Scola, Brooks, or Battier. The combination of Ariza, Tmac, and a legitimate third player could give Morey some decent options. Of course, like I said, all of this was putting the money aside. To make the numbers work...it gets even more interesting. The way the Rockets have struggled recently, I would not be surprised if Morey pulls the trigger close to the deadline.

Yeah this is futile. Ariza experiement already over and it's still January?!!

I really think Landr now has the biggest trade value behind the elephant TMac contract

The rockets should trade him as soon as possible. Next season, he could become a garbage contract.

Ariza is going through MAJOR growing pains right now but I'd say give him till next season to see what he can do with Yao after all that is what Morey envisioned when he was signed. Now Morey did say there would be NO untouchables so if the right deal for a star came about and Ariza was needed to make it happen, I say Morey pulls the trigger.

I think the realistic feasibility of the Rockets trading Ariza a couple of months into the season are not realistically feasible.

    Great post.

Question is, is he willing to take a diminished role once we get a bonafide go-to guy (or two)? He already gets ticked when he doesn't get the ball, as we see in Clutch's video in the 'body language' thread.

Part of the reason he came here was RA and DM told him he'd get to grow as a player. When someone better starts getting his shots and he's diminished back to the role he had in LA, does he become a pouter?

I guess if he does, his contract and youth would be pretty easy to move....

I wish people would STOP being so quick to call for a thread to be locked. We should encourge conversion on this board not discourge!

a garbage contract at MLE playing 40 minutes a night?

    I'd take that over 7-minute-6-game $23M contract and 0-game $17M contract.

How about we encourage posters to post in already existing threads? There are plenty of "I hate Ariza" or ditch Ariza threads. Just like Mac I guess we need multiple threads all saying the same thing.

I'm willing to bet the Lakers would trade Artest for Ariza in a second. They've seen Artest's antics first hand and he just had that weird concussion accident.

Another team that would love to have him is Cleveland, you can get West or Gibson + 1st round pick + filler from Cleveland.

A 5 year MLE could be a garbage contract.

The 7.6 minute-6-game & 23m contract is an expiring contract, and that 0-game $17m cpntract is the expiring contract to become. Expiring contract never be a garbage contract.

    I agree completely.

Trevor's only real problem, I think, is that he is not a first option, but that's the role he's playing on this team. Whether that is his own decision, or the coach's decision, I don't know, but that would definitely not happen if we had a clear go-to guy ahead of him. Maybe Brooks or Landry could develop into that? Maybe even Scola? Maybe when Yao comes back? Otherwise, we'll have to look outside.

This and/or whether Morey would admit that he made a mistake in signing his prized offseason acquistion.
