Bad deal for Memphis. Lowry has been horrible and he isnt on a good contract. Toronto should at least throw OG and some picks.
Bad deal for both. Toronto will not improve. And memphis will not become younger. I do not see it happening.
If they are healthy then Toronto will improve tremendously. Lowry cant shoot or score and he is defering to Kawhi like when Kobe tried to make a point.
Lowry had been repeatedly blasting his coaches and GM in Toronto while all the time chocking in the playoffs. Last summer he had no market but Toronto still took care of him.
Got rid of the one playoff choker, time to get rid of the other. While also getting rid of the coach.
This would pose an existential crisis for me if I were a Toronto fan. That would mean a starting lineup of presumably Conley, Green, Kawhi, Siakam, and Gasol. Only one of those players was on the team year and it's not like he's the star (and he definitely wasn't last year). Like, at what point is your team not really team? The extreme example would be, If the Rockets traded their whole roster for the Warriors roster, and then won the championship, are you happy?
In your scenario would Danuel House be on the active roster, playing significant minutes? If so, then yes I would be happy.
I like this deal for Memphis. Sometimes it just better to clear the roster and start all over again. Conley still has $65 million left on his contract after this season and no team is going to give up first round picks for him. Take Lowry for another year and clean house. The rest is a wash with Jonas and Gasol both having options to become free agents this summer.
Are you serious with this question??? Would I be happy if the Rockets won a championship?? YES. Come on, man. If the players you currently have can't get it done, you move on and find players that can. It's sports, not marriage.
I just think it's not a good deal to trade the core of your team when your team is doing well. I think it sends a bad message to every other player on the team. I mean, they are tied for the 3rd best record in the NBA right now. Last year when the Rockets had the best record I wouldn't have traded a single player. The whole reason you build a team is so that you can go into the post season with a top 3-5 record. I get if it was for Anthony Davis but Conley and Gasol just aren't what they used to be.
