I remember seeing the Emmet Till picture as a teenager once. Since then I've seen a lot...but that picture still haunts and makes my heart sink like the first day I saw it. I'll spoiler it below, as she hinted, his mother did something as gut wrenching as leaving it as an open casket.

Regarding Rand, I was puzzled. Somewhere along the way he changed like crazy, but even this move was puzzling and I had to look at his comments deeper. Not from just a personal view, its just politically stupid to oppose this as well as his COVID shennanigans earlier

Rand Paul is much more qualified to talk about racism than Harris.

Maybe Rand hasn’t changed this is who he is maybe he, along with others in this country, have become more emboldened by this president and his dog whistling.

There are people within my proximity that would find Emmett Till circumstances amusing. You'd be surprised....

What is your proximity if I may ask? I don’t understand white people sometimes

What exactly is Rand Paul opposing in the bill? I can't imagine he's pro-lynching, so I assume it's an issue with something particular. I didn't look into this but he tweeted something like "lynching is already illegal" and that this bill lumps in too many things.

That's basically what he's complaining about...his amendment was to make the bill only apply to lynching and not include anything else.

He wanted to add a serious bodily injury clause to the bill, so they wouldn't federal charges brought on lynching attempts that resulted in only minor injuries. He may have had other objections too.

I'm very proximate to a bunch of white people and I don't always understand them either, don't feel bad.

Admittedly I don't know much about the anti-lynching bill and was incredulous to read that any senator was against it...

But after listening to Rand Paul's argument I have to say he makes a ton of sense, assuming everything he stated is true.

"Hey @CoryBooker and @KamalaHarris lynching is already illegal but slapping someone is not lynching, We shouldn't conflate someone who has an altercation with minor injuries, with lynching, That's my opposition to this without my amendment to fix it. https://t.co/vmyuk55Dcc "

While the obvious is the obvious as pertained to a hate crime. All 50 states should endorse the hate crime bill.

The bill is symbolic and was already passed last year unanimously by the senate, just that the house was delayed and then gave it a new name so it had to go back to the senate. Paul is resisting because its helps build his brand. It's a smart move by Paul to appeal to his base.
