I'd say I was surprised but I'm not. I remember hearing some ex-Raiders FO guy on the radio one day on the way to a client's office that was laughing that they hired Hue. It was why he quit the organization he said. They had put together this list of people they wanted to hire and they went and tried to start the interview process and Al Davis told them he was hiring Hue. A lot of people in the organization were bent up about it.
This doesn't really make any sense to me. He wasn't doing a terrible job. They had injuries that they couldn't overcome but they still had a solid season competing for the division until the last game of the season.
Good decision. All cords to Al Davis' final years of mismanagement needed to be severed. This is the first step for the Raiders to become a respectable organization again. Hue Jackson was too much of a divisive loose cannon. With this new GM, they might become a place where a decent coach may want to go. Maybe Reggie Mckenzie can install a Packers culture there.
I missed that. Any links or anything that I could check out? Also, this makes perfect sense. The guy acted completely autonomously after Al Davis died, and there's nothing to suggest that he would act any differently moving forward. The fact that he basically had no one to answer to was going to lead to a LOT more trouble than the Raiders wanted to take on. I mean, playing Carson Palmer 4 days after you trade for him?? That alone should have been a fireable offense....l
There must be some serious problems behind the scenes. McKenzie and Jackson are long time friends. My guess is that Jackson refused to defer to McKenzie on player selection. I bet Moes is bummed about this...
yep, jackson was probably trying to call the shots from FA signings, drafting, etc, basically cutting out the GM. new GM said, ehh enough of that.
Probably doesn't help that Jackson was drunk on power after Al died, I doubt he was willing to give it up to the new GM.
Divisive among the front office, locker room, or Oakland fanbase? Was it mainly because of the Palmer trade?
lmao stability = #1 way to give a coach success. you can't expect coaches to be great from year 1. Look at Kubiak.
