RA working with double-standards

As many of you have noticed, RA's rotation and substitutions leave something to be desired so far. My question is why does he work with double-standards ?
Example: Tracy / Barry are playing terrible on defense and cannot get their shot to fall, yet they stay in the game. Head / Wafer miss a few shots and they're out. It's not just the shooting, also when people get beaten 1-on-1 or make a few TOs.

So again, my question: why ? Is it because Barry, Tracy, Artest, Rafer
(I understand why he keeps Yao in the game, still they act like we do not need another 7 footer, go figure) are veterans in this league ? It definetly doesn't have anything to do with talent because Scola didn't see much PT last night, after a few misses. Scola is a great player yet he doesn't get the same treatment the other 4 I just mentioned get. It has nothing to do with all-start treatment either because Barry, Rafer (and Artest) are not all-stars.

Do you think,if you agree with me, that RA does this deliberately? Also, why would you do that, to keep your 'older' players happy? It doesn't make sense to me and I wish he would treat everybody equally. If Rafer plays bad, T-mac plays bad, Artest, Barry or Yao, just take them out. In the case of Yao, bench him too if he doesn't perform well. When a person is hurting the team, you should try some1 else.

Last night, RA did a good job by the way because Scola, Wafer, Barry and Hayes weren't playing well so they got limited playing time (all under 20 minutes). I hope he keeps it up and also applies this to his starters more; just get them out of the game, talk to them about their performance and make sure they get the message. It's only in the best interest of the team and that's what it's all about. In the end, it's a team sport.

It all depends on what the player can do ASIDE from shooting.

    I think that's pretty obvious.

    The End.

its cause wafer/head are 1 dimensional players. if they aren't hitting their shots then they are useless

    Agreed,
Tmac needs less minutes & Scola needs more, 18 minutes just doesn't cut it. Personally I see Scola as a winner. At least I'd like to see Scola at the end of games not just the first qrt.

TMAC is in there because at anytime he can explode for huge points

Wafer is in there because he CAN hit shots, he is ice cold right now and might have lost his chance.

Brent is in there to help out Brooks and it has worked. He has to shoot because at some point his shot will be back. Once Batman comes back he will ride the pine.

Rafer is in there because he has swingers and is not afraid to boss around anyone and call them out for not moving without the ball. He is a terrible shot but a much better boss than Brooks is.

    Trust

RA trusts Barry and TMac to do things to contribute regardless of their shooting touch on that night. RA has seen both Barry and TMac turn it on in the 4th quarter when both have been off in the previous 3. RA knows that players like TMac are going to have to play a major part in play off success if the Rockets are going to have any but that is not neccessarily true for Head and Wafer.

AB has gained RA's trust with consistent play and recieves rotation time regardless if he is having a good shooting night or not. Head lost RA's trust last season and has yet to earn it back. Wafer is just Wafer, nice talent that shoots the ball well in spurts but still has to earn RA's trust in a similar manar that AB had to earn it.

Who comes after McGrady and Barry in the depth chart? It's Luther Head and Von Wafer.

Who comes after Luis Scola in the depth chart? It's Carl Landry and Chuck Hayes.

There's your answer. No double standard at all.

theres no double standard with head as far as im concerned. the difference between head being cold and any other player being cold is that head makes the worst decisions out of anybody on the team. even when aaron brooks makes a bad play, hes usually throwing the ball out of bounds because he's in too much traffic to see the openman. when head makes a bad play, its usually something easy like a bounce pass that he ends up bouncing into his defender's hands.

i do think wafer should be playing ahead of barry though, at least while barry's thumb is still hurting, because that guy cant hit the broad side of a barn right now.

So you think if Wafer or Head plays bad they're kept in the game just like Barry and T-mac ? I know T-mac and Barry have the advantage and they should but when they're hurting the team badly, why not just play Head / Wafer ?

Luther Head throws bounce passes to Yao's feet. There is no double standard to have.

Everyone else gets time. If Brooks is the hot hand, leave him in. Same with Landry as evidenced last night. If Scola is on, then he gets the bulk of the minutes.

I prefer Adelman going with what's hot rather than dividing minutes evenly. Didn't you see T-Mac on the bench vs Dallas a few weeks ago!?

Just take a look at Head trying to bring the ball up, much less trying to throw a bounce pass at Yao. I've never seen someone who could play for the NBA but could not throw a bounce pass to the post....

You can not compare Wafer's defense to anyone else's Wafer continually gets beat down the baseline where it gets dangerous for anyone inside to get into foul trouble. There are more facets of the game besides shooting and man on man defense, and we haven't even begun to talk about the mental aspects of the game....

Yeah, Scola deserve more. He made more than 50% of his FGA and less TO. I'd love to have him get more touches.
Coach should limit the minutes for those playing poorly.

Clyde talked about this during a telecast one time. He said that RA is very loyal to his veterans and especially the stars.

I agree somewhat with this post. i agree sometimes Scola is playing well, yet he's not played more throughout a game. I get he doesn't play D well enough, Landry is better, but not exactly a Garnett...offense has been the biggest issue and the defense sometimes is due to players focusing and hustling and not so much if defensive specialists are out there. However, this is a back to back and i remember correctly, Scola didnt play much on the first night of the last back to back and then played more the second night. So this might be strategy.

The fact that he waited so long to give Wafer a try and hasn't even let Dorsey play (maybe he played a min, but thats it) does indicate he doesn't trust guys easily. I dont know if youth is the problem, afterall Brooks has been getting good minutes. Maybe they're not showing promise during practice. If its a practice thing, then i get it, but don't agree completely. Giving some guys a legit opportunity is all they need sometimes, meaningful minutes for Dorsey, in which he does well, may raise his confidence enough to have better practices.

Why are y'all upset Scola (whose getting plenty of minutes on the season) didn't get more playing time last night? Carl Landry was absolutely killing it out there.........I have no problem with RA going with the hot hand. If Landry doesn't log 27 minutes last night, we don't stay in the game, and most likely lose.

As for Luther Head, Von Wafer, and Barry.....(Tmac isn't even in this discussion, because whether y'all like it or not he's our max player and RA is trying to play him into shape)........Von Wafer is the only player that has a argument......he's actually earned a chance at playing time and has shown he can handle the ball.

Luther Head sucks and while he might be able to shoot he certainly didn't show it when he got the opportunity to play against the Hornets........all he did was prove that he can't even be trusted to inbound the damn ball. He has the worst handles I've ever EVER seen on a NBA guard. I have no problem with his ass sitting on the bench......give those "Head" minutes to Wafer. As far as I'm concerned Head is just a "incase of emergency break glass" type of player.

Superstars may have a bad game now and then but they somehow find a way to win the game.
