Maybe this isn't thread worthy, but I don't know how to search for it and wanted to see if any fellow Clutchfans know. What are some of the worst losses (point-wise) for teams that eventually won the series?

Surely it's happened dozens of times that a team loses by 20+ and still wins in the end. But being a data guy I'm wondering what the stats look like.

While Warriors game 3 may have reminded us of Mavs game 7, there's a critical difference... today is a new day, and the series is still alive.

Don't worry, I just read that in 1956, the Minneapolis Lakers lost 133-75 to the St Louis Hawks.... and then lost the series in the next game by 1 point. :p

Let's be honest though, it's looking like when a team beats another by 30 points over NBA history.... the results are not favorable.

Cavs lost game 1 by 15 and game 2 by 33 in the 2016 Finals

Take with a grain of salt because at least part of the stat is wrong but per KHOU(local news)...

"Only 4 other teams have lost a Conference Finals by 40 or more points and just one, the '82 Celtics, still managed to win the series."

    1973 Warriors (L 4-1)
    1985 Nuggets (L 4-1)
    1982 Celtics
    2017 Celtics (L 4-1)

    Except....
the 81-82 Celtics didn't win the series & never lost by 40+
the 82-83 Celtics didn't make the Conference Finals

Indiana has blown out Cavs weeks ago. Frequently.

The 82 Celtics actually beat the 76ers by 40 points in Game 1 of the ECF that year. The Sixers won the next 3, Celtics took them to 7, but the Sixers won Game 7 in Boston.

Overall, teams are 2-21 in playoff series if they lose a game by 40 points or more.

The one that immediately comes to mind is the "Memorial Day Massacre", Game 1 of the 1985 NBA Finals.

Boston defeated the Lakers 148-114 in game 1. I believe that that games still holds the record for Most Points and most Field Goals in an NBA finals game. The Lakers came back and won the series in 6 games.
