    I was doing some quantitive analysis of the overall talent level (including Mental Aspect) of the top 8 teams of in the western conference. I will point system (From High 13pt to 6pt) I did not count average or below average players since they are not make lots of impact of the game result. I also take coach and intangible into account if the coach and Team has won NBA champions in the past 5 years.

    Here is the results:

    According to the analysis, Rockets are right where they are talent wise in the loaded western conference, for Rockets go to next level and really compete with top 5 teams, either Yao or Steve need to reach the very high level or we need some serious upgrade on our star quality and above average players. Talent wise Sac Kings is best team right now since Cweb return, SA, LA and Min are very close and Dallas are not far behind. After top 5, there are huge talent drop in 6, 7 and 8. This is by no means a scientific quantitive analysis, but at least it give us some general idea of where we are right now and what we need to go in the future.

    very interesting post..its nice to see a well thought out analysis but I think SF3 should be at least star level.. he has similar stats to others you consider stars even though his FG% is poor.

    I think you should also take into account teamwork.. such as team defense, team offense (FG%, Assists) because without they come into play as the season progresses.

    I think you should give Memphis some points for their coach...Hubie has made all the difference on that team.

    Very interesting research.

    My comment:

    You give the so-called "intangible" thing way too few score. According to your scale, Sprewell and Jwill are overrated talking about talent level.

    Interesting idea although can't really agree with you on some of the players' rating. Some players are overrated, others are underrated. For example, on Rockets, noway is MT above average, he's closer to below average PFs. JJ is also average SF at most.

    To be fair, every team should have 5 spots equally. Only 5 players are allowed on the court.

    I like how you try to quantify your opinion of the players on these teams.

    I dunno if I find it funny, or just plain wrong.

    And what does a 56 on the dragonsnake scale mean, anyway?

    Okay, I think I find it more funny than wrong.

    I lost interest when I saw B. Miller equated as "star quality"

    The guy has been throwing up crazy #s all year long.. I think one could argue that he's star quality. He's throwing up 15 pts, 11 boards, and 5 assists on 50% shooting.. not to mention 1.3 blocks and a steal per game.

    Goes to show that Rick Adelman is underrated. With Webber out, he took his team to the best record in the NBA, and his team has been playing exciting AND successful basketball for years.

    I agree.

    You can give the first three players off the bench a 0-9 rating that covers all three. i.e.

    0=body to foul somebody
    1=might actualy get a rebound or score a couple
    2=solid player just not consistant enough to start
    3=should be a starter

    MoT = 2
    EricP = 1
    MarkJ = 1

    Rockets bench score = 4 out of a posible 9

    The whole thing is subjective but kinda fun.
