I see what you are hinting at...

    but...

this is a horrible way to make a point...

No coach could do anything to ensure success with a team like that.

lol if Phil Jackson goes to the clip show..I bet the odds of some guy from the cavaliers comes over would be close to 99.9%.

Let's get real. You don't win 11 championships simply by being an opportunist. No one could win a championship with the Clippers, but Jackson would probably take them to the playoffs.

Larry Brown is the best in-game coach in the NBA.

Tom Thibodeau is the best coach overall.

Put Kobe on the Clippers and how many Finals MVPs does he get?

Put Larry Brown on the Lakers and lets see how many rings he gets?

How do we know the next coach wont actually mess things up?

Put McGrady on the Shaq and Duncan-ers and lets see how many rings he'd gotten?

and put mark jackson as the coach of the bulls and lakers and see how many championships he gets... probably not even 1.

If Phil Jackson went to the Clippers they would have multiple chances to win it all, provided he wasn't at the end and cashing in on a big contract. Because in the normal coarse of his career, he won't go anywhere unless the pieces in the front office are in place and it is showing in the talent on the basketball court. That's simply a very intelligent coach.

The difference between Phil Jackson and Larry Brown is Larry thinks he can coach well enough to overcome all the front office bologna. Phil knows that no coach can coach that well to overcome a brutal front office, so he doesn't even start those gigs.

If Phil ever joins the Clips, you can bet he's either cashing in at the end of his career or they have the front office in place to go all the way.

they had the best record in the league 2 years in a row and couldn't get over the top. phil jackson's greatest talent is getting teams over the top.

that's something mike brown couldn't do with the cavs, and avery johnson couldn't do with the mavs when they won 67 games.

phil gets slack for having the best team and the best players, but the truth is other coaches with the same advantages don't have his success.

Different coaching situations are best suited for different coaching styles. Just because Phil can't bring Clippers to the WCF doesn't mean he isn't hands down the best coach when you have a championship worthy squad that needs a certain level of poise, experience, and presence.

Lakers would have still won the championship and Cavs would have still gotten destroyed by the Celtics.

When was the last time TMac led a team to come back from double digit deficit in playoff? Not to mention elimination games.

Phil Jackson is a great coach. But he is generally overrated by the ring-counters. The question is, would Jackson ever agree to coach a team like the Clippers? But then, would he have had these options of choosing whatever team he wanted if he hadn't done well with Jordan's Bulls?

There is no such thing as the best coach. Different coaches are suitable for different situations. There are good coaches and bad coaches. But there is no linear way to measure who is the best.
