http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2012/03/28/blogtable-potential-playoff-upsets/ Mmmh. Wish I could say yes, but no. Realistically, no. I'll hope for a miracle if that were our matchup though. No one else seriously thinks we could beat OKC do they? We don't even know if Lowry will be there, if he is he would be jumping back in having not played in like 6 weeks. Who knows which Kevin Martin will show up, likely the one who scores heavy in the first 3 quarters, but disappears in the 4th. Scola seems to be a first half beast, but fades away in the second half as well. Are the Thunder one of Patterson's teams? Or have they paid him off like the Mavs (jk). At absolute full strength, maybe we could pull off the upset, but not with the injuries and inconsistencies we've seen this year. just my opinion
Of the glut of similarly talented teams in the West seeds 5-10, I do think the Rockets have the best chance of beating the Thunder. Rockets are the only team to beat them twice this year, split the season series and one of the losses came in over time. For some reason we seem to match up well with them. With Lowry in, their two best players happen to be guarded by two of our best defensive players (Lowry and Parsons). That being said, it's hard to imagine any team beating the Thunder in a series in the West this season save the Spurs. But hey, that's what they said about the infamous Mavs-Warriors series. Match-ups matter.
I think Rockets have a good chance to give them problems. Thunder do not play as good against bigger teams. Look at last years playoffs. beat Nuggets, 7 games to beat Griz, and lost to Mavs. That being said Rockets probably wont win. If Lowry doesnt play, they definitely wont win.
trueroxfan, as a true rox fan, you're not allowed to be "realistic" or "practical." You are only allowed to blindly root for the rockets at all times. If we end up playing the thunder in the first round, you better believe KD and company are goin down!
If I'm not wrong, the Warriors were 4-0 against Dallas in the regular season that year. I think a lot of ppl that year gave the Warriors a pretty good chance of beating the Mavs in the playoffs because the glaring matchup problems posed by the Warriors were exposed during the regular season.
Well we are 2-2 with them this year. We do match up relatively well with them, and all the pressure will be on OKC. We would need to be 100% healthy (WITH Lowry) and clicking on all cylinders. Unlike this condensed reg. season, in the playoffs, you have rest days and teams can key in on your weaknesses more. But we won't be pushovers. The key is we would have to make our 3pt shots. In the 2 games that we won, we shot > 40% on our 3s. In the 2 games that we lost, we shot < 35%.
There's the remote chance in any series. Parsons could try to pull a Horry/Chilcutt-on-Barkley facing Durant. Lowry could give Westbrook trouble on defense, and Dragon is there to help keep him fresh. If we've had a glaring issue this year, it's been dealing with burly frontcourts - Scola just gets pwned and Dalembert disappears. Hopefully Camby gives us a chance on the boards. Lee can keep Harden honest. Can we outscore them 4 times? That's the big question - no one on this roster can put up 20+ every night. We'd have to hope there's an implosion on their end.
pshh.. no matter what, stern and the refs will make sure we never win. maybe get it to 7 games because that way the NBA can make more money. but I'd rather play either OKC or the Lakers in the first round if we have any shot at winning a series.
Well we are 2-2 against OKC this season. 3 of the games have come down to last minute shots. We're 2-1 in those games. The first game we lost, Parsons played limited minutes off the bench and we had the deadly duo of Martin/Bud trying to stop Durant. Not a ridiculous statement from Blinebury - we seem to match up pretty well against them. It WOULD be a huge upset, but it's not stupid to think Houston is a chance in that potential series
You need to change your moniker, because a true Rockets fan would never ask such a question. Of course we can beat OKC in a playoff series. In each of the games we have had with them this season, Parsons has made Durant work harder than he is used to. Dragic and Westbrook don't like each other too much and Perkins..., well he just looks mean. As a matter of fact, lets just forget about winning a championship. Lets just make the playoffs so that we can play OKC. We just beat them without Kyle and Martin.
Yeah Blineberry. What a knucklehead tard that dude is. (OKC will be upset by somebody cuz they aren't coming out of the West.)
Which is a shame, I think they're the best bet to beat the Heat. I think the Spurs or Lakers can beat the Bulls though, improbable but not impossible.
If we make the playoffs, all of the "we won't last 5 games" guys will watch as we beat the thunder in 6
If the Rockets make the playoffs, I'm looking forward to all the analyst pretending like they've been paying attention to the Rockets at all this season.
