As sad as it sounds, this (Francis / Jefferson / Lewis/ Stoudemire / Cato )
could have been the Rockets starting 5.

Mobley & Boozer could have lead the bench. All of these players have either been Rockets or were available to be drafted by the Rockets. Here's a quick breakdown.

    98. Passed on Rashard Lewis.
    01. Drafted, but traded away Richard Jefferson.
    02. Drafted Ming/Nachbar , could have drafted Stoudemire/Boozer . (Note:Tayshaun Prince was also avaiable).

In some parrallel universe, these young, athletic Rockets are challenging for the best record in the league.

Interesting topic. I'm surprised no one else has thought of this and started a thread about it...

    Jefferson sucks.

I rather have Ming over Boki, Amare, and Boozer put together.

But I do wish we didnt pass up on Rashard.

As stated, these are "what if" situations.

If we drafted Rashard, then yes, I can see us drafting and keeping Jefferson, but then again, who knows if Rashard wouldve flourished with us. Hell we may see Boki be the leading scorer for New Orleans.

Then if Jefferson and Shard lived up to their current expectations then we wouldve not gotten Ming and/or the other players you listed.

This has been going on for the past 10 years, since the Drexler trade, Barkley trade, Francis trade, and so on. What is done is done.

Might as well start a "We couldve had Drexler, Hakeem, and Jordan on the same lineup" because we could have, but yet didnt happen.

Kind of impossible to say we would have had any of those lineups because each year and the players we had effected our record and where we ended up in the lottery.

If we had better players each year then our record would have reflected and probably wouldn't have a chance to pick up any of the other players in the years to come.

The one that we honestly should hold ourselves accountable has to be the Rashard Lewis one. We let him slip out of our hands and look at him now.

The other people like EG etc had so much potential and talent that any team at that time wanted him so we had to make that deal when we needed a PF and not a SF.

And if I'd have bought Microsoft stock I'd own the Rockets now.

True, this thread is 'what if', but it not far-off to say that this could have been. A team of Francis/Jefferson/Lewis could off still missed the playoff, thus landing in the lottery.

Even if we draft those players they will still struggle to score 15 points b/c of JVG system. Like Francis he increase his points elsewhere. And T-mac score more points in Magic uniform. Likely if Yao can trade he will be what we thought he could be. I would love for Yao to play for Dallas under his National team coach.

    Was waiting for this post.

Copying the above, and pasting it in every trade thread would save so much time.

I am surprised that nobody has said having any of the previous players would have completely changed what we could have had a chance of getting later on.

ie.) I doubt having Jordan would have created us the opportunity to have either Cassel or Horry, not to mention Drexel helping us get MJ. Similarly having Francis, Rashard and Mabye Jefferson, how can you say we could have drafted Amare?

Mabye its because Francis was the lucky charm for us getting Yao...oh that makes sense!

Hindsight isn't just 20/20 its full of garbage too!
