Remind of the rules specifically. If a player is acquired via trade today - the 6th - they can then be grouped with other players in trades on Feb. 6th? But if a player is acquired via trade tomorrow - the 7th - they can then be grouped with other players in trades on Feb. 7th, the trade deadline? Is that correct?

So then the impetus for a move today or tomorrow, would then only be to possibly trade that player again later?

And per a quick look at the trade machine...
CP3 can't be traded until 1/15/19
Capela cant' be traded until 1/14/19
Knight and Chriss can't be traded back to Phoenix
Ennis, Green, MCW and Anthony can't be traded until 12/15/18
And Green additionally can't be traded without his consent

All those things together, the most likely option is nothing happens. Next mostly likely is nothing of any meaningful significance. DM might make moves to pick up more move-able pieces I guess.

I'm not sure why the 2 month deadline matters a ton if its a "significant" move... eg. one that we think legitimately makes the team better.

Now, guys with contracts like JR Smith and George Hill, that have very small guarantees for next year against much bigger total potential salaries, with guarantee dates in July of 2019, I can see DM wanting to acquire those contracts right now, because indeed in 2 months they should be more valuable as a team or two might just be more willing to move on salary at the trade deadline...

What team out there is just dying to bring on $40M worth of unreliable production, from a player who is just going to get more unreliable over time...and what would they require the Rockets to take back in return.

You only take on crap if you get to unload your own crap.

 

I supposed naming TWO DOZEN players increases the odds of being right. And adding "others..." lets you later say that you saw it coming that player X would be a Rocket.

 

The others is a bit of a cheat, but at least give him credit for throwing a lot of random names out there. There is still a very low probability of him being right.

So if he actually gets an exact name right, it will at least validate his thought process, and if its an "other" that at least fits the story, less validation, but still some.

And it makes a lot more sense to think about who might be coming back than who is going out, because the deadline at issue here is one which involves being able to re-trade who is coming back.

well, since I don't know everything, but I do understand math....yes it increases the odds to name 24 players instead of name 1.

24/494 = 4.85%
1/494 = 0.2%

But...the odds that we are targeting just ONE PLAYER and ONLY THAT PLAYER is about 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%
And....the odds that we are targeting more than just ONE PLAYER is about 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999%


So you have to include those odds when you are doing your odds......and it would be FOOLISH to ignore the odds that more than one player is a TARGET............................twithead

I'm telling you, and have been telling you for a month, that we were aiming to complete a trade or trades by tomorrow. And I've even named some names.

If we do not complete a trade by tomorrow then you can mark it down...the trade market is extremely tight....and MOREY backed out of at least one deal. K?

Knight is on a 2 yr contract. I doubt if anyone will want to give up an expiring contract for him. Angie is very tough. I think he will try to get AD at the February deadline. Brown and maybe Rozier too might not be available. I do agree with you that Morey could try to get Rozier via a 3rd team.

 

id take jabari/holiday for knight/1st if possible. our 1st's are $hit anyways, might as well throw out some hail marys lol
