Crowds of hungry homeless vs. tourists, hoteliers and restaurateurs.

No one, including the church, is above the law.

Hmm. I call bull****. Maybe not above the law in theory, but there are some that suree can get away with certain things. And I am not particularly referring to police officers either. As with all law, a written proclamation will not stop anybody, and I hope this is a law that continues to be broken for the sake of humanity.

    Surely, you must be joking.

Are you willing to sit idly by and accept any stupid law a city puts in place? Think for yourself, man! They went to break the law precisely to illustrate how stupid the law is and to challenge it.

Heroes, and champions of liberty, in my book.

You know who else knew the law and broke it?

    Rosa Parks

He's going to sue again and the ordinance will be rejected by the courts again.

If you want to get rid of the homeless, the answer isn't to try and starve them out.

You're going to tell me that RACIAL DISCRIMINATION in the 50's is the same as trying to change a law in the 2010's?

Change the law. Vote it out. Get people behind you and make a stand. I know $500 and 60 days in jail are worthless to someone who's willing to do that, but... there are proper avenues. I am more than sure that more than 75% of the population would vote to abolish the silly law.

So you want to feed the homeless... do that within the boundaries of the law WHILE you fight that silly law. I never said it was a good law at all.

Just get it done properly. Now he's going to SUE and end up costing all the taxpayers more money.

That law sounds really dumb. What is wrong with feeding the homeless?

Sure, the 90-yo and two pastors could have exercised better judgement. But sometimes, defiant actions such as this are what it takes to draw more attention and scrutiny to the issue.

The first step is making people aware of the law and what it means in a real world sense. Getting arrested makes people think:

then you have a groundswell of support.

She was still a law breaker.

    You know another law breaker...Ghandi.

I think homosexuals are breaking laws on a daily basis too.

Yes, but back then the white man thought it was "right" to separate races.
    He protested... peacefully. Way different...
Huh? What law are they breaking?

    Your comparisons are poor.

And these people think its "right" to get rid of the homeless by starving them out. What they are saying is that profit is more important than taking care of people who can't care for themselves. If you are a Christian, the Bible has a whole lot more in it about feeding the hungry than it does about racial equality.

So your contention is that this guy is being violent?

I'm not a Ghandi expert, but I do know enough to know he broke about a billion laws against protesting British rule. He sat down on train tracks preventing trains from moving, until the cops came around and dragged him away. He broke the law peacefully, just like this guy. Unless you consider handing a homeless person a sandwich to be violent.

^ I'm not a Ghandi expert either, and yes I might have to learn a few things about him and others in civil right movements but, again, those times were WAY DIFFERENT than now.

Again, I'm not saying this law is good at all... keep that in mind.
