It depends on what you need. For 10-11 Hou needed a C and Hayes was a significantly better post defender then Tucker is. For the present day we need a perimeter defender who can hit 3’s, no doubt Tucker is 100% choice for our current roster and system.

Thats debatable. PJ careers averages 42FG% and Chuck Hayes 49FG%. Hayes was able to shut down not only centers but SF and SGs as well (Paul Pierce?). Hayes was a better passer as well and the last few years with Houston he was starting to develop some legit post moves.

pj tucker scored more than chuck hayes with a higher TS% chuck hayes averaged 1.2 assist per game in his career, pj tucker averages 1.4 assist per game. chuck hayes is horribly overrated on here. he was a novelty that we loved for a rockets team with little to no expectation. the rockets, without a shadow of a doubt would be much worse with chuck hayes than pj tucker. pj tucker on an open market is way more sought after and valuable than chuck hayes.
PJ shoots much better than Chuck and can shoot three points. 70% free throw percentage,not afraid of being fouled On the defensive side, Chuck is obviously stronger than Tucker. Chuck has strong lower limb strength and more elite rebounding ability. Compared with PJ, Chuck is obviously more effective in protecting the restricted area. PJ... He gave me the feeling of Pat-Bev on PF, who loved defense as much as they were willing to do any dirty work.... By contrast, Chuck is more like a solid stone wall. Given the team's obsession with three-point goals, it's clear that PJ is better for us.
Watching Hayes guard those great post scorers was a thing of beauty. But, we got Harden for that now. Give me PJ.
