Splitting this out into a new thread... pretty big news that doesn't belong buried in a thread about Casey being let go by the Raptors.
He's actually a very good coach. I think he made a bad decision by taking this job. Should have trusted his gut and stayed away. Probably would have been better jobs next year.
It seems like the head coach should always be allowed to select the assistant coaches. Seems odd that they were reluctant to give the coach that authority.
It will suck to see Casey fired again in 3 years because the Pistons can't make it out the first round.
Good hire by Detroit. Casey can build a strong locker room and culture, something that Detroit desperately needs. Not such a good choice by Casey tho. That roster and it’s lack of flexibility will be tough. He has somewhat of an experience having to use multiple big guys tho so maybe he can get the Drummond/Blake pairing some success. I wouldn’t bet on it and I don’t see him lasting all 5 years.
Good hire for the Pistons considering the state of the franchise. Would I have taken this job if I were Casey? Why not?? it's $7 million a year!!!
Dwayne Casey is a good coach, a Grade B coach, comparable to Scotty Brooks. But he isn't some elite level big name coach that's going to get his pick of offers. There is a risk that if he passes this job offer, he might not get any others for a while.
