If you had to pick 5 guys out of this class of NBA draftees to go win an NBA game today....who is your starting 5? Remember, this is not about who is going to be the best player(s), next week, next month, a year from now, or 5 years from now. It's about right now. Pick your best 5 players, a point guard, a shooting guard, a small forward, a center, and a power forward, to go win a game tonight. Here's mine: PG: Lillard SG: Beal SF: Taylor C: Davis PF: Moultrie That's my starting 5 guys.
1- Marshall: best distributor 2- Lamb: would benefit from Marshall setting him up and teams doubling Davis 3- Kidd-Gilchrist: jack of all trades, great in transition 4- Davis: hold down the paint 5- Melo: clog the lane with Davis
PG: Taylor (I don't think Lilliard is ready defensively today for NBA) SG: Beal SF: MKG PF: Davis C: Zeller
If it's about winnin today no one should mention Drummond, neither Davis at PF. Lillard Beal MKG Davis Zeller
Most centers in this league aren't scoring threats though and I quite honestly don't think it would matter if it's Zeller, Anthony Davis or any other draftee, if you're talking about going against the Dwight Howard & Andrew Bynum's. I like Robinson and Davis duo the best, because they're the most talented by far and in my opinion their offensive output would far outweigh their potential defensive shortcomings (compared to the other players you could go with). If you are matched up against a dominant post player, you could have Robinson guard the center and zone up SVG style (with Davis coming to double from the middle) any time the other team goes to their C in the post. FWIW I actually thought about going with Jeff Taylor instead of MKG myself. I think you can't go wrong either. I went with MKG, because I thought he'd complement the rest of 'my team' better than Taylor.
If you don't have Davis on your starting 5 you lose a lot of credibility....... Davis and Zeller seems to be the predominate big selection. I'd be okay with that too. Nobody else picked up on Moultrie. But of course, a lot of you are putting Davis at the 4. I still say he's a 5 and will maintain he's a 5 until I see him play the 4 or the 3 successfully. I just don't see any way that a coach can take a shot-blocking/shot-altering presence like that more than 15 feet away from the basket. So, with Davis at the 5, I don't think there's a better complement than a guy that can play good D and stretch the floor offensively while still having the ability to post-up some against smaller opponents. Moultrie gives you all that. In my opinion, he gives you more offensive balance than Zeller. Although Zeller is ready to go, in my opinion.
I think these 5 guys will end up being the best at there positions when it's all said and done.. G: Marshall G: Rivers C: Drummond F: Davis F: Barnes
