I'd be happy with that. That is if we can't get rondo... Dwill is still really good, maybe not what he once was... But you never what a new situation can do for someone.
Not sure what he's got in the tank, but he's contract is albatross and his production has progressed, a lot. DO NOT WANT! (But we need to get rid of Lin.)
1. As some of us have mentioned, there are likely more desirable and less risky available options than Deron Williams. 2. Even if none of these other options (Melo, Bosh, Rondo, Love, Patterson, etc.) materializes over the summer, the Rockets are still most likely better off just holding onto the expiring contract of Lin and Asik plus other assets and make a run at an upgrade during the season/at the trade deadline or, if need be, in summer 2015 when Lin+Asik come off the books and the team can have actual cap room. Betting on Deron Williams right now is like taking a contested 3 early in the shot clock with nobody to rebound. Might do it if you are really desperate, but I don't think the risk/reward profile is a good fit right now.
agreed . . I have cooled alot on DWill mainly because his contract. If we pull the trigger on it . .. you better be right cause Harden/Howard/Dwill will be the center of this team for 3 yrs Rocket River

DWill has slightly better offensive numbers but is a far worse defender than Beverley or Lin. If Dwill is acquired, the Rockets would start three negative defenders: Harden (-2.82), Dwill (-1.73), and TJones (-1.92), so DWill's offense and floor leadership will need to be very good to make up for that.
Edited To Add via NBA.com DefRTg: Forgot to hit the return bar to separate Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik: Jeremy Lin=102.0 Omer Asik=102.1
If you want to win, then you have no choice BUT to care about the cap. Having cap flexibility to make roster adjustments is absolutely key in forming a championship team. Deron Williams' 60 million over the next three years basically diminishes any flexibility we have. On the other side, we also the best backup center in the NBA who happens to be one of the most prized trade baits this summer.
Winning and cap management go hand in hand. Your thinking is the exact same reason New Jersey Nets paid 200M for a 2nd round exit. To be honest though, I think this thread is a waste of space,DM and Les Alexander are way too smart to even consider adding D-Will to this team. Dude has all the red flags in the world: Max contract, Trade kicker, getting old, low stats, no D, no motivation and he keeps getting injuries around his ankles. I mean seriously, I have a hard time thinking of a worse contract in the NBA, it's not like we still have dudes like Eddy Curry signed to max somewhere, the NBA as a whole has "wizened up" and you generally don't see completely useless players signed to big money anymore.
