I doubt that this would go through, but I thought I'd let you guys check out this little rumor from bskball.com. Very interesting. If this works out, Minnesota is an instant contender next year I think.

Gary Payton to the Minnesota Timberwolves, a league source dropped this in my mailbox, and said that apparently there have been light discussions about a Terrell Brandon/ Gary Payton swap, that might include William Avery. I am really not buying into this idea (its madness I tell you), but the source seemed to believe their was interest from both sides in such a deal, and that Terrell Brandon was asked about his feelings on moving, this deal seems hinged on who the Sonics can draft. I remain the pessimist here, and say you do not trade a Gary Payton, but I am also not the Sonics GM, who did trade Shawn Kemp.

As unlikely as it may be, I find it very surprising that GP's name would be in any trade discussion. He's the only reason they weren't the Clippers last year. Anyway, just thought I'd pass this along...

Actually, I read that GP has accepted the fact that Westphal will be back and that he's pushing for the team to get a center of quality.

Wally would be insane to trade away GP, but then again he was insane to trade away Kemp. He was also insane to let Karl go.
