    http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/18959003/zach-lowe-paul-george-future-indiana-pacers

George wants to play for a contender, and the Pacers seem miles from there. "Paul wants to compete for a title," Bird said. "We want Paul here. He has expressed that he wants to be here. That could change overnight. You never know. But whatever I can spend, I'm going to spend."

They probably won't have the hammer: a five-year, $200 million-plus "designated player" mega-extension they can offer only if George makes an All-NBA team. Even with Kevin Durant's injury, George is likely behind LeBron, Kawhi Leonard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Davis, and Draymond Green for one of the six All-NBA forward spots -- with Gordon Hayward and Paul Millsap lurking.

Without the extra leverage of that extension, the Pacers would face the very real threat of losing George for nothing next summer. If they flame out this season, George would be dispirited. Indiana would have to at least test the market for him again.

    =====================================================================

GSW, CLE, and SAS already has their starting SF position locked up, and it happens to be their best players. It would be redundant for them to acquire Paul George.

PG has interest in the Lakers but they suck ass and are worse than the Pacers. Far from a contender.

    So who's left?

George and Harden are supposedly buddies...If he wants to play for a contender Houston seems the perfect match...

I'm not even sure he makes sense for the Lakers. Adding Paul George by himself isn't going to make them contend in the west, i'm also not sure Paul George is good enough to attract a superstar player at his age.

Get rid of Ariza, Dekker, Harrell or whatever. George would be a perfect fit next to James.

If you believe basically every single person with any connections in the business, he wants to play for a contender IF THE CONTENDER IS INDIANA, otherwise he is dead set on going to the Lakers.

Exactly, with/after Durant he definitely is, i hope he refuses destinations like Phoenix, Orlando...the team to keep an eye on is obviously Boston...we have to hope they'll choke hard in the playoffs and on the other hand that we do a good job, this would be a decent/good start to have a chance...i'd trade everyone aside Harden and Pat for George.

SF is the one position where we can upgrade the most. Offloading Ariza and Lou in the summer would give us around $30m cap space, pretty much where the 30% max salary is (we may need to trade Wijlter and/or Onuaku for a full max). Hayward this summer, PG the next are the ideal targets. PG perhaps a better fit due to his superior defensive abilities. Only problem is that we hardly have any assets that the Pacers would value, especially given that the Lakers could offer Ingram + top 3 pick. Otto Porter is another option for this summer, but the Wizards will match. Maybe Gallinari or Gay, but we'd miss Ariza's defense.

If we add Paul George AND keep Ariza it would be a homerun! Trade Dekker, Lou Williams and Harrell if we have to.

I've hardly watched him this year, but his advanced stats seem like he's fallen off significantly.

DRating is up to 108, D box +/- is at -.3, and his win shares/48 is .105. For comparison Ariza is at DRating of 108, D box +/- 1.0, and win shares/48 is .106.

    His regular stats look great.

Not sure how feasible it would be contract-wise, but I can envision trade scenarios where SAS/CLE would consider trading for PG. Especially if neither team wins it all this year. LA & Love are not beyond being traded IMO.

But yeah, if you can replace Ryan Anderson with PG. Ooooh LAWDDD.

George is Lakers bound. If there is any interest on the Rockets, it would be leverage like using us to get more money from the Lakers. Don't do it!!!

Mentioning PG with the Rockets is a waste of a conversation. There is absolutely zero percent chance we get him.
He can come out and say "Houston is the only team I will play for" and it still won't happen.
You need at least a lottery pick or a rookie with all-star potential to even get started in that convo, and even then teams like Boston and LA can easily trump us.

I think you pursue it anyway, and try to make LA shed contracts. And then get into the mix for some of their young dudes. Probably they won't want to trade any pieces, sure, but you never know what will happen during the regular season.

There's gotta be a way to keep Ariza and Lou while still getting PG. MAYBE we can live with offloading either Ariza or Lou but losing both of them just to add PG adds very little additional value to the team. Plus, the value of those contracts are too high you're basically getting starter level players for like half that amount in the new NBA salary environment.

He's gonna be a RFA in the offseason, if he tells everybody he will only play for Houston then obviously Pacers will have to let them go, c'mon now other teams won't trade for him if PG says he won't play there. More likely Pacers will try to get PG to sign with Boston instead but if PG is adamant to where he wants to play the team he wants to go to can just wait for him to come to them instead of trading for him. It's the same thing that happened with Dwight, Lakers wanted to keep him or at least trade him for scraps but when Dwight said he's gonna sign with Houston that was the end of the story.
