We must drown out the Westbrook threads with parallel Harden threads:cool:

This is a new age thing, being indifferent to your best player getting accolades.

I know most Rockets fans who were fans during the 90s celebrated Hakeem getting an MVP.

No one is talking about trading a title for an MVP. One has nothing to do with the other honestly.

We are wanting them to compete for a title and in the process we want to see the greatest player on the team since Olajuwon receive individual accolades that recognize the greatness we've enjoyed.

Honestly, I never cared about whether Hakeem won the MVP or not. I'm sort of glad he didn't win it in 1995, though. Hakeem was the best player on earth during that time and we all knew that he was, he didn't need the award to prove it. He won the award that counts the most, Finals MVP.

MVPs are a huge part of a legacy. It's weird that fans on the internet act like by saying "oh we don't care about MVP give me chips!" they will somehow impact anything. Harden winning MVP has zero to do with whether we win a championship, but it does help solidify his legacy and give us something cool to enjoy.

I don't think my statements really impact anything, and I don't take myself that seriously tbh. I do hope that Harden wins the award. It just doesn't really mean very much to me at the end of the day unless we win a championship. Sort of like JJ Watt winning defensive player of the year 3x, yet no championships. Good for JJ, but until the team actually wins something I don't much care for the awards.

It's not an either-or thing. The people who really want Harden to win the MVP also really want the Rockets to win a championship. We want both!

Harden winning MVP could be factor in luring FAs as well.

Obviously our performance, culture, and cap space play a large part in that; but I think him actually winning MVP will leave a lasting image in FAs heads that could push Houston over the top.

Players already know that Harden is the best, they voted him as MVP two seasons ago and will likely be doing so again. The MVP award is a popularity award that media pundits vote on and as such it should not be taken too seriously, imo.

    Excellent post. This is wisdom.

Why are a lot of people acting like it is foolish and vein to root for and enjoy the MVP as an accomplishment?

Getting an MVP does not get in the way of a title run so whats up with the comparison?

Some people are acting like the two things are mutually exclusive.

I agree with what you said. Great points.

I just think the MVP has intrinsic value. Its not about getting free agents or making the team better.

Getting the MVP trophy is about getting the MVP trophy.

I believe it has intrinsic value. Its up to the fan whether or not they assign intrinsic value to the trophy so I understand if you dont.

I would be inclined to agree if we hadn't struck out on guys since that time.

Horford chose to go to Boston to play second fiddle to a 5'7" guy and Bazemore went back to ATL.

These moves ended up helping us more than hurting, but the premise still stands. Harden had lost much of his luster from that year.

All of me wants all of Harden (to win MVP)
We love all his curves and all his edges,
All his perfect imperfections (turnovers, defense)
He gives his all to us
We give our all to him (MVP! MVP!)
He's our end and our beginning
Even when we lose he's winning (Spurs game)
