http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5831308 Astros third baseman Morgan Ensberg remains the Padres' primary trade target, but Cubs right-hander Greg Maddux could represent Plan B, FOXSports.com has learned. To obtain Maddux, the Padres likely would need to outbid the Dodgers, who are increasing their efforts to land the future Hall of Famer and possess a greater number of trade chips. The Padres' plans hinge on two unrelated scenarios — the prognosis for right-hander Chan Ho Park, who went on the disabled list Sunday, and the Astros' pursuit of Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada. Ensberg, currently on the DL with a bruised right shoulder, is part of the Astros' offer for Tejada, according to major-league sources. The Astros, however, are unlikely to trade Ensberg in a lesser deal. They were not enthused by the Padres' initial offer of right-handed reliever Scott Linebrink and either infielder Mark Bellhorn or Geoff Blum — and probably would want a more substantial regular, such as Padres shortstop Khalil Greene, in return. Ensberg, 30, hit a home run and two doubles in his first rehabilitation start Saturday at Class AAA. He is a potent offensive force when healthy, and is not eligible for free agency until after the 2008 season. Park, suffering from abdominal pain, went on the DL retroactive to July 26. The Padres could intensify their efforts to acquire Maddux if they believe Park's injury is serious, but their primary goal is to add a third baseman, not a starting pitcher. http://www.roundrockexpress.com/team/expressnews/?article_id=4644 tonight mo went 1-5 with an RBI and a Strike Out!
so is that good or bad ? he was 3-4 last night with 2 doubles and a HR. so hes hitting .444 in 2 games but thats Triple A ball....I think Mo can come back but not this year....I'll take Linbrinke and Green for Mo anyday...
Exactly ... SD is not giving up Greene ... he is way too popular. The Padres really want Ensberg, but they just do not have anything to give up that would make it reasonable for both sides.
if we are going to give up morgan we better get alot more than a reliever in return. we need some holes filled badly and the only way that i get rid of morgan is if the padres sell the farm to get him. frankly, that's not going to happen so dont trade the guy
We'd need a bat in return. Like you said, for a reliever that would drastically be a downgrad overall. Our bullpen has had it's ups and downs. Seems like more downs and ups so far, but they did have a very good streak going till Lidge broke it when he was brought back as the closer and gave up a run and was quickly pulled again.
