Pacquiao to meet Barrera for first time since 2003

MANILA, Philippines -- Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao and Mexican icon Marco Antonio Barrera last met in the ring of the Alamodome on Nov. 15, 2003 in San Antonio, Texas. And that fight left vivid memories.

Mostly pleasant for Pacquiao and nightmarish for Barrera, who got stopped in the 11th round -- the first time ever in his career.

They will meet again in Las Vegas on July 24, this time for a press conference formally announcing Pacquiao-Barrera II at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

The event will mark the start of a promotional blitz to be undertaken by Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions which will jointly stage the October 6 rematch at the 12,000-seat Events Center inside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Pacquiao is slated to leave for the United States on July 19, presumably to start his training for the megabuck fight at the Wild Card Gym of renowned trainer Freddie Roach in Los Angeles.

The rematch between Pacquiao, 28, and the 33-year-old Barrera was given the green light by Top Rank big boss Bob Arum and Golden Boy Promotion CEO Richard Schaefer in Las Vegas Tuesday.

Plans are afoot for a promotional tour in the West Coast or Mexico City, where Barrera is based.

Yet to be tackled are the ticket prices and other bouts in the undercard.

Pacquiao is batting for the appearance of countryman and newly crowned International Boxing Federation minimumweight champion Florante Condes, who dethroned Indonesian Muhammad Rachman on July 7 in Jakarta.

Payback time, I'm sure Pacquiao will get a humilliating defeat.

    Go Barrera!

Wow dude have you seen Pacquiao fight in his past 5 last fight? He's damn instoppable... Also age has to be factor here 33 vs 28? I think Barrera is a huge underdog in this fight.
