Over the last 2 years, the Rockets are 17-1 when TJ attempts at least 14 shots.

He took 54 shots in the season sweep of SA last year and 27 in the two wins over LAC this year.

It's possible that means, when he plays well enough to earn enough playing time to put up 14 shots, then he's a huge addition to the Rockets and they're far more likely to win.

Some games he plays 17 minutes because he's not playing well....

other games he's awesome and gets 35 minutes because of it.

    Agreed. Correlation, causation, yada yada.

We'd all LOVE for TJ to play well enough to get at least 14 shots.
    That's up to him!

And it's not even about how well he's playing offensively. Rebound. Defend. Hustle. The offense will come from that.

Griffin is a horrible matchup for him though on both ends

McHale would bench him as soon as he started getting hot.

Same thing he did with Ariza last game. smh

TJ needs to be more aggressive and confident. When he had the confidence he was ballin earlier this year. He's been awful since the collapsed lung.

When TJ gets to put up more than 14 shots, your defense sucks. Think that's what this stat tells us.

So what you are saying is. If TJones jacks up 15 half court shots we're going to win?

    My body is ready.

Or it could mean that the Rockets were playing so well overall, that even Terrence Jones was able to put up a bunch of shots.

Maybe the other team was playing so lazy on defense, that even Jones had a field day.

    This could mean many things.

I think that's exactly what it means. We should have the victory sewn up early in the 2nd quarter.

I have always thought the pick n roll with him and Harden is close to unstoppable. Everybody think TJ is the reason but he isn't the ball handler. I guess your could argue that he needs to come over more. Ultimately, the coach has to call it more and he needs to keep track of how many times they have run it. each quarter it should happen at least 5 times according to the stat. With Dwight down below, he would get some shots and rebounds from it. Harden would get the other chuck and you would have TJ involved and not lost in the rotation. The setup to the play is where McHale would earn his money and practicing/selling the idea to the team. Also, as a quirk, TJ can be the ball handler initiating the play since he can dribble and drive as good as anybody, especially any power forward not named Blake.

TJ needs DMO to push him to play well, but DMO needs TJ to be no where near him to play well. weird.

    Indeed!

Like seriously.. 'the key to winning is to force Jones to jack up 14 shots' - no, more like the key to winning (or one of) is him playing well. We can't afford him to have another 'dozer' game

    That was my point.

When TJ's involved & confident, we're an entirely different animal.

I feel the same way. I don't have inside info on this (haven't asked) but it seems to me like he rushed back before he was ready to play.

When he got his spot back after the nerve problem he was a reliable double double and was critical to our success. When he came back from the collapsed lung he wasn't the same player and he hasn't been since. And even at full-strength and perfect health any player in the NBA would be seriously challenged by a Blake Griffin matchup.
